My Gateway laptop p-7805u Intel Duo P8400 @2.26GHz beeps sporadically. How do I know what the problem is? I have a temperature indicator and it beeps anywhere from GPU 45 to 49C, Core 0 59 to 80C and Core 1 60-86. Temp doesn't seem to matter.

If the bios checks the GPU and is set to warn when it is higher than 45 you can have the problem you say. most gpus idle aroundn 50C but when used for games or lots of motion can reach 60C. adjust the monitor to above 60C if you can.

the CPU can but should not reach 80-86C this is a high level and dangerous. you will want to see why your system is not gettign sufficiant air flow. Many of the Duos have heat issues and the designs of the laptops are not enough. A cooling pad is a welcome investment

Black screen during gaming default graphics settings, no overclocking forced to hard restart..only remedy is to use rivatuner to force 3d performance..at the cost performance during gaming. Gateway...

I've had a similar problem on my Dell Studio laptop. Windows Update will force an update to the graphics card driver, and the result will be full of bugs. To fix, consult the graphics card's manufacturer website (Intel, nVidia, AMD) and download the correct driver for your graphics card. Uninstall the current driver using Device Manager (Windows Vista/7 just type in "Device Manager" to the start menu search. Expand the Display Adapters section. Right click on your graphics card and select uninstall.) You should then be prompted to restart your computer, do so. Once your computer has rebooted, install the new driver downloaded from the manufacturer's website, after it installs you should again be prompted to restart, do so. Once rebooted, problem should be solved.

Gateway P-7805u Video issues

Hi,
This now the third time the problem has arose and you have had it in for repair twice. This indicates that the model range is suffering a generic problem as others are suffering from the same symptoms as you.
Now i don't know what your specific problem is but its usually a faulty graphics chip or card.
I think by now its time that Gateway gave in and gave you a newer model laptop because of the problems its suffering but that going to take a little determination from you, basically moan at them and refuse to give in.
Post back if you need anymore advice.

Good luck.

9800M GTS gpu instability in gateway p-7805u fx laptop....

Maybe a little late of a response, however... Ive had the p-7805u for quite a while. I had the same problem which I noticed that was triggered specially by old games rather than demanding games like Crysis. In fact, the computer never gave me a problem on the most demanding gpu applications, but crashed within minutes in games like Warcraft III. The screen showed artifacts, crashed and then recovered giving me the "driver has recovered" message, and ultimately and almost always hard froze after a couple minutes. I was getting really frustraded, even got an rma for warranty service, but didnt send it in because i couldnt survive without a computer at the time being.
I started monitoring my gpu clocks. Almost all gpu's, being more dramatic in mobiles, lower their clocks when they are idling. I finally noticed that the computer started artifacting and crashing when the clocks lowered for idling and lower energy consumption purposes. Simple solution: download desktop drivers from www.latopvideo2go.com , any in the 19x.xx branch, and use their modified inf so that you can install it in your laptop. In the nvidia control panel go to 3d settings and under global change "Power management mode" to "prefer maximum performance". This doesnt allow the gpu to lower its clocks, solves the problem permanently =). Ive run crash free for months, and battery life is only lowered by maybe 10 minutes, which you can always prevent by changing the setting when you plan to go on battery.
