Xbox dvd rom

sometimes the laser moves all the way to the back of the dvd-rom drive and won't pick up the disc
Once you get your case off the system, lift the dvd-rom out and remove the 4 screws on the bottom.
if the laser is in range of the disc then you should take a cotton swab with a dab of alcohol on the end and clean the laser head ( never touch the laser)
then put the dvd-rom together but leave the case off of the xBox.
Test with a game, if it still does not read then you need to buy a laser from an online store

You need to either clean the laser or replace the dvd-rom drive.
Both of these cases involve opening up the console and voiding any warranty Microsoft offer.
First you need to determine if its not reading a certain type of disc, or not reading any disc at all, if iys not reading any disc at all, it may have grime or dirt on the laser causing the problem.
You can clean the laser with a clean cue-tip or cotton swab, by opening the console, removing the dvd-rom drive and then opening the dvd-rom drive case to expose the laser.
If after cleaning the laser it still does not read discs, you need to replace the dvd-rom drive. I hope this helps. Good luck.

you opened the dvd drive didn't you...well..if you did..you prolly offset the laser....OR..you just need to run a lens cleaner thru the dvd-rom drive.

Disc Error :- I have the same error. You can do 4 things.

A) You have to keep turning it on and off. Here's how... Turn it on, then click open tray then close tray ( keep opening and closing tray about 10 times) then turn the console off. Then keep repeating process for about 15-20 minutes and eventually the game disc will show up. ( I have to do this every time)

B) Make sure that this is covered by Microsof't's RROD warranty. Then some how get teh red rings on this console and send it to Microsoft. (Note: I am not held responsible for your actions.)

C) This is a lens problem. So go out to a store and buy a DVD lens cleanser. It's a disc that cleans the lenses of the DVD or the XBOX.

D) Open it up and replace the lens (like the above guy said) (much harder and more costly).

HI. this is being caused by a damaged optical lens assembly. you have two choices here. you can opt to replace the entire DVD-ROM drive or, you can replace the optical assembly.

we recommend replacing the entire DVD ROM drive. this is much easier and, its just plug-n-play.

If you swap drives from another xbox 360 will not work unless its the same dvd drive thats why your 360 plays cd's and dvd's only !!1

Some of the Xbox 360s have been known to have issues with their DVD-ROM Drives, On Older Xbox 360s The actual Drive has been known to cause slight scratching and scuffing to your Games.

If your Xbox 360 is having problems reading games, their is potentially a problem with the DVD Drives Laser, i had this issue last year with mine, Out of the blue the DVD Drive stopped working and wouldnt read discs. The i would suggest Calling Up the Xbox Customer support Center for your Country (numbers Available on www.xbox.com/support) and explain your problem to the person on the end of the line.

The only solution is usually to return your Xbox to microsoft Free of charge, which will be either repaired/replaced and sent back to you.

Also, once the solution is solved, it is important to NOT leave Games/DVD's In the Xbox's drive when not in use, Especially when moving the Xbox around as this can knock the laser and cause a fault ! their is only ever a DVD in my xbox drive when it is in use, i take mine out all the time to help prevent these sorts of problems.

sounds like dvd rom m8 try it on another console or try anther rom on yours first b4 buying 1
