Try a video head cleaner first of all, OR eject the tape before turning off power.

Why do my vcr eat taps

Every VCR has a transport mechanism that moves the tape-when eject is hit it reverses and winds the tape back into the cassette and closes the door on the tape BEFORE the tape exits the unit.

It is not doing that so the tape gets mangled--bad belts, bad rubber drive wheel etc---all happen with age even if unit is not used much.

Parts for these are getting hard to find--if any questions post a comment here.

Cassette tap in my vcr get eating

The unit has a bad transport mechanism--it among other things moves the tape in play etc and when ejected winds the tape back into the cassette.

Could be bad belt/s or a bad idler made of rubber that does this type of function.

If a old unit may be better to replace if you can find one new.

Power goes off when a cassette is inserted. Tried cleaning heads but it won't even run that. When power is turned back on the cassette is immediately ejected.

Good day!!!

Most common problems
  • VCR refuses to FF or REW and shuts off.
  • VCR shuts off entering PLAY or REC or at random during PLAY or REC.
  • VCR eats tapes.
  • VCR doesn't accept tapes or ejects them without cause.
  • Sound is wavery, fluctuating, or muddy.
The cause for all of these is very often a bad idler tire or other dirty, worn, or tired rubber parts

DVDR/VCR Combo_ZV450MW8a. When I insert the VHS cassette...

Had the same problem. took cover off, cleaned the recording heads. Also look on the left and right of casett chassie. You'll see to thin green strips sticking up with a black elctronic device. Chech to see if it is aimed at the clear plastic pin near the little black plastic gear in the middle. mine was out of alignment on the left one. Works know. Good luck

Will not eject cassett

try this unplug and then keep finger on eject and plug back in keeping hold of eject if not work then
UNPLUG and take top off video and you will see were the tape is stuck THERE WILL BE A RUBBER BELT ON ONE SIDE OF MECHANISM TURN COGS THAT BELT ARE ON ( USELY ANT-CLOCK ) takes time you will see parts move towards front of video ( IF NOT CHANGE THE DIRECTION TURNING ) the tape will come out when finished
THEN PLUG IN SO VIDEO CAN RESET MECHANISM

unfortunately the tape clamp sensor is broken or worn, or could have dust or dirt obstructing it and they don't have parts for these anymore, the tape clamp sensor is like a tiny white plastic sensor only a few millimeters in size with a red eye inside the edge of the tape carriage, and needs possible cleaning, it could be something as simple as dirt inside the mechanism over the sensors, the Tv will power down when the error occurs not much you can do if a clean or high output air blow of the components don't do the trick. sometimes dirt in the circuit can cause it to do that too, ....im surprised it lasted this long actually they were great for the bedroom, i had one ages ago they are available on ebay for about $100 or under now ...Sorry i couldn't be of more help.......you may get away with disconnecting the white feed ribbon cable that powers the tape cartridge and just use it as a DVD and Tv, that should stop the error.

What you're describing is common when the center LED has failed / gone out. If you're really good at taking a unit like this apart and putting it back together - and not too bad with a solder stick you could attempt this one yourself... It is a pretty intensive repair but not difficult for a good shop just time consuming. The part isn't too expensive either, just an infared LED... In fact, we've run a bit short on stock once in awhile and bought one of the off the shelf versions from Radio Shack which worked just fine. Good Luck Bill
