Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer stopped near end of cycle and will not restart. I checked the circuit breaker - no problem. I had had no previous problems, no hot smell. The vent is not clogged and the barrel turns freely.

First thing you want to chack will be the fuse.
UNPLUG the dryer! Remove the rear panel of the dryer and locate the fuse. It is white and ¼” wide and 3” long. It is located on the blower housing. Remove the wires and check to see if it has continuity. If it does not, you need to replace it.
Please let me know if this help or if I can assist you further.

  • There are two house circuits/fuses in an electric dryer's circuit.

Have a qualified electrician verify that the supply voltage is correct.
  • Gas supply valve to a gas dryer is not open.
Open the gas supply valve. See Installation Instructions for details.
  • LP gas supply tank is empty or there has been a utility interruption of natural gas.
Refill or replace the LP tank. Call your natural gas utility company.
  • Dryer does not have enough air supply to support the gas burner.
The dryer needs space around it for proper ventilation. Do not stack or place laundry or throw rugs against the front or back of the dryer. See Installation Instructions for details about installing a dryer in a closet or alcove.
  • Incorrect cycle or temperature has been selected.
If the Air Fluff cycle or temperature is selected, the dryer will tumble without heat. Each cycle ends with a Cool Down period during which the load tumbles without heat. Check the location of the indicator on the Cycle Selector knob.

LG LDS581 dishwasher HE error mid cycle

HEATING (ELEMENT) ERROR // Water heating error
The manufacturer has assigned this error or fault code to indicate a problem with the water heating circuit. Turn off the circuit breaker to the dishwasher for 30 minutes, allowing time for the appliance to cool; then restart the cycle. If error returns, check the heating element for continuity and check the wiring harness for any obvious signs of damage. If the heating element shows infinite resistance after testing with an Ohm meter, replace it.

We just started noticing that, when running the dryer, there's a smell coming from the breaker box. It smells like something electrical burning. The circuit breaker for the dryer was a little warm,...

A burning smell from an electrical panel is never a good sign. You did what a lot of people will do, and have the same results - the problem won't go away.

The circuit breaker relies on the mechanical squeeze pressure of its metal clips to maintain solid electrical contact with the panel's bus bars. The problem is likely due to a poor connection between the circuit breaker and the panel board bus bars. Over the years, the load presented by the dryer has heated those points, weakening the metal clips, changing the metal conductivity in some cases due to pitting and arcing. Changing the entire panel is probably not required - especially if there are other unused spaces for a circuit breaker to be installed.

If this is the case, I would remove the new QO230 circuit breaker and install it in a previously unused space in the panel, instead. The bus bar here should be undamaged (since it was never used before), as would be the new circuit breaker contact clips. The damage has been done to the bus bars at the original location, and that space should never be used again. The same holds true for the old QO230 circuit breaker. Install SQD blank plates in the panel cover to keep fingers from getting inside.

Next, a current reading should be taken with an ammeter or amprobe. A 30 amp breaker should have no more than 24 amps on each wire connected to it. If yours is more than that, something is wrong. If it is not more than 24 amps, measuring the voltage at the breaker and the dryer plug should be done as well. The voltage at the plug should not be more than about 3% lower at the plug.

If there is no more room in the panel, a secondary panel can be installed adjacent to and fed from the original panel, space permitting. Move the dryer circuit to the new panel and any two adjacent poles of circuits (for a 240 volt feed). The dryer circuit breaker space will be abandoned and the two additional poles will be fitted with a new QO circuit breaker to supply the new panel. Your electrician should do this work for you. This is "permit required" work and must be inspected for your safety.

I hope this helps and good luck. Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Press start button and dryer will start and stop , if you press start button again nothing happens , if you unplug dryer and plug back in it will try to start again and stop

Howdy: The motor could be popping it's breaker once the start button is pushed. When unpluged the motor resets and the cycle starts over. But also the dryer thinks the element is too hot and resets the safety switch. The temp thermistor (overtemp sensor) could be clogged with lint or open circuit. Not easy to diagnost. Do you smell burnt wires or lint? Check to be sure the door is completely closed. It may think the door is open and not start. Doug

When the dryer is hot and you open the door it smells like rubber burning

Your dryer is getting to hot due to the cycling thermostat being bad. Also check you vent for clogs. If you don't replace the cycling thermostat your thermal fuse will end up going bad. Then your dryer will stop heating. You will find the cycling thermostat on the element shoot. It's round, has two screws and two wires going to it.

Dryer trips circuit breaker smell almost like something burning coming from dryer

In order to trip a circuit breaker, there is almost for sure, a dead short to ground. Takes quite a bit to trip a breaker. The smell is most likely something electrical burning. Stop resetting the breaker and have it checked out. Continous resetting and tripping can cause more damage. The breaker is doing it's job.

Dryer was working, quit in middle of cycle. Will

It's rather unusual for any internal failure to cause the dryer to just stop in cycle. Check the circuit breaker that supplies the dryer. It should be a double-pole breaker of at least 30 amps. Turn the breaker off and back on to ensure it is reset. Internal causes could be the motor, door switch, thermal safety switch, timer, or a broken wire.
