I have an older hp desktop with a 3ghz processor. It has ddr pc3200 400mhz memory in it. I would like to upgrade it to at least 2g memory. Is there anything cheaper and faster that I can use? Or am I doomed to the 3200?
it is an hp pavillion 450n desktop.
the product at the bottom is not correct.
Thank you.
The Maximum Total Amount of Ram Memory, for the HP Pavilion 450n Desktop PC is 2GB.
EACH ram memory slot's maximum amount is 1GB.
I'm afraid it only uses PC3200 ram memory.
PC3200 is DDR Sdram ram memory, that operates at 400Megahertz.
(400MHz)
Mega = Approximately 1 Million
Hertz stands for Cycles per Second.
Your DDR Sdram operates at 400 Million Cycles per Second. (When operating at maximum capacity)
This is HP Support, and the Specifications page for the Pavilion 450n,
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00058235&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=392522&lang=en
The reason it has to be DDR Sdram that operates at a frequency rate of 400MHz, is that the Processor's FSB is 800MHz.
(FSB = Front Side Bus)
Ram memory typically operates at half of the Processor's FSB.
I agree that PC3200 is expensive. Around $70 on the average for
two -1GB sticks.
This is due in part to DRAM manufacturers raising their prices.
(The black rectangular objects on the side of a ram memory module, (Stick) are DRAM chips)
Perhaps there is a 'Mom and Pop' computer repair shop near you, that you can ask if they have any good used PC3200. They will have taken it out of a computer where other hardware parts were bad, but not the ram memory.
Just a thought.
Hi
Unfortunatley you will not be bale to upgrade as the maximum memory the motherboard supports is 1GB
Please can i ask that you leave feedback and vote if this has been useful
