I am having trouble changing the cartridge on the printer. It makes no difference to the operation. I usually only print in black. I have changed the cartridge; I continue to have the problem. The ink light stays red. The printer doesn't grab paper and run it through. Sometimes the maintenance button flashes at the same speed the ink light flashes. I have never had a problem with this printer.

The color combinations (order?) of different printers are not the same. Make sure that you have the right cartridges for your printer.

Changed black cartridge and now only colour printer will print in is blue/green

The black print head most likely is blocked with dried ink.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

Well there are few tests you could run to make sure it's not the printer.

1. You said you already tried different print cartridges and it didn't make a difference.

2. Have you tried printing anything else? Like the windows test page? Does that come out gray as well? The reason I suggest this is because sometimes when printing a document you can set the printer settings to always print in "Draft" mode. This mode allows the printer to conserve the ink which make black look faded or gray. If you can make sure the printer settings are set to "Normal" or "High Quality" then test.

3. Also are you buying the printer cartridges from the same vendor? What I mean is that sometimes different vendors have different quality of printer cartridges. Some sell re-use/re-furbished print cartridges for a much lower price, and some sell OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for "an arm and a leg". So make sure you have a good quality print cartridges.

Hope this helps

P.S In the future you should let us know what make and model your printer is, this will help us narrow down the issue, or if we have had this issue happen to us we can let you know.

We were out of black ink so we changed the cartridge and now it prints everything but black in pink or red. We've tried changing all the other cartridges.

You could find the root cause by performing different steps. One of the easiest methods is that you need to make sure that the plastic protective tape which is usually used on the new black cartridge is off. Usually the user makes this mistake. This mistake might occurs due to absent-mindedness. The reason could also be some distractions which happen while loading the new black ink cartridge.

I am having trouble printing black, sometimes. I can print some things fine, and other pages come out blank. I have cleaned the machine several times (8-10). I changed the cartridge

the cartridge is generic or original, some times generic cartridges make troubles like yours, you clean out the inyectors, machine, heads, all and still you have troubles... try it with other cartridge, some times the inyectors of generic cartridges came jammed, so you can clean 100 times and the problem persists, try with another cartridge, witout clean the inyectors and without make any service...

How to determimne which ink cartridge has run out ?

If your print jobs are colorless or color poor you need to replace the color cartridge, if your jobs look fairly normal but the printer says to change the ink. You are out of Black (because the printer can make black using all the colors.) However, you can usually lift the cartridge and feel the difference in weight. If both are so light they feel empty you are better off replacing both. Because of the way the HP printers print, unless you specifically told the printer to print black and white, two cartridges installed at the same time will probably deplete equally .

I have a full black ink cartridge and no color cartridge and it won't print - black and white text.

In the Printer properties
There is an option like:
Print in color Print in Black and white (it may be different wording for different printers)
Change it to print in B&W
When you get your color cartridge remember to change it back to color - Normally it should be left in color.
hope this will work for you

HAD BLACK INK CARTRIDGE REFILLED AND REPLACED , PUT IT BACK INTO HP7550 PRINTER, NOW IT DOES NOT PRINT AT ALL DID NOT PRINT A CALIBARATION PAGE

You usually have to install a DIFFERENT cartridge at first to fool the printer into thinking you changed the cartridge then swap to the refilled one... Their feeble attempt at making sure you don't refill and use the same one.
