I just finished talking to an HP customer support for an hour. By the end of the end of the conversation, I realized she was reading from the same manual I was and was no help. The jam is deep inside and cannot be reached without removing the front paper tray in my opinion. I can see paper pieces from the back side but the rollers do not move or even touch the paper.
I have the exact same problem...I work for HP myself but I gotta say that this printer sucks!

I could not solve the paper jam message problem. However, on the back of the 7280 is a darker gray module with a push button release. I removed this module and low and behold the jammed photo paper was easy to remove. Fixed. No where in the manual do they mention this [email protected]
HP 7280 paper jam - no paper seen from back two sided paper removal- no paper seen from automatic feeder no paper seen from moving the ink cartridge door no paper jam in paper tray (have left only one sheet of paper in after a long search. Still no paper seen
information shows on printer " clear carriage jam" still cannot see any paper jam. Am in desperate state of mind, machine only twelve months old, and no left packing around the machine. HELP
My new 7280 just ate 10 sheets of good quality paper, thanks for posting so I know it isn't just me. I had to run through the diagnostics and "maintenance' after pulling the paper out the back.

if you said that you have cleared it of any paper then its time to have your printer check by a printer technician, a small piece of paper still stuck in there will cause the printer to sya these, check it again maybe you missed a spot, if you are sure you cleared it up real good then take your printer to a repair man to avoid any furthere more damage to the printer
HP Officejet 4315 paper jam.
01. Please remove the toner / catridge from the printer.
02. Carefully remove the jammed paper if any.
03. Please ensure that no small piece of paper got stuck in the roller.
04. Switch off the Desktop / Laptop and printer and reboot the systems once again.
05. See still the paperjam message / lights are blinking. If still the problem is there, please call the HP Printer Service Engineer to set right this problem.
Do the following also to find out the solution.
Call HP Customer Care Toll fee number, and you will find the solution. I f still the problem exists they will make a report and someone will contact you soon. They are good in after sales you can trust me on this. If the printer is under warranty, they will replace with a new Printer.
Have a Nice day.
see what you gotta understand is that right next to the rollers that pick up the paper are paper sensors so if those sensors have been damaged take a cotton swab dip it in water. clean the rollers where the paper is taken in from and also clean the carriage rod along which ur cartridges move(metallic rod). now if this still does not work call up hp at 1800-474-6836 and if ur printer shows out of warranty in hp's records dont worry ask the customer representative to go ahead and tell you the upgrade options and go in for either the photosmart 7280,photosmart 6380 or the photosmart 8180. You will get it at a 50% discounted rate. Its called a refurbished printer but the actual scenario is that if wallmart purchases 100 printers and realises they needed 99 they send one back to hp and then our factory test it before sending it out to the customer but it has never been used before. trust me this is the best option.I work for HP. call in and hope you get me on the call.If the printer is in warranty then hp will try a couple of troubleshooting steps and if they dont work then they will replace the printer free of cost.
Same with mine and when I try to look for more jammed paper, there is none. I have wasted an hour messing with it and I tried to call HP and they want $65 to talk to me because my warranty is out of date. Someone, please help us!
I had the same problem. You can access the carriage from the back of the printer. I actually had a jam , however just as you exposing the carriage from the front I did not see a thing.
