The S3380 is a still camera with limited video capabilities, not a true video camera. No matter how big the memory card, a single movie clip cannot exceed nine minutes.

This limitation is due to economics, not technical. In some countries video cameras are taxed at a higher rate than still cameras. A still camera that cannot record for ten minutes is considered to be a still camera, not a movie camera, and is thus taxed at the lower rate.

How often do you see something in a movie lasting ten minutes, shot continuously from the same viewpoint with the same camera? Usually movies are made by splicing together shorter clips.

If you really need to be able to film longer clips, like a family member performing in a play or a concert, then you need a true video camera.

The camera limits the maximum length of a single HD clip to 20 minutes. In some parts of the world video cameras are taxed at a higher rate than still cameras, where "video camera" is defined as a camera that can record longer than 20 minutes in a single clip. By limiting the recording to 20 minutes or less the camera can be priced lower.

When was the last time you saw a movie with a single shot that lasted longer than 20 minutes? Movies are almost always comprised of shorter clips edited together.

You should be able to record up to about 30 minutes in a single clip, assuming your memory card is large enough. A 16GB card will hold about an hour of full HD video or over 40 hours at the lowest resolution.
The 30 minute limit is on the length of a single clip. You can stop one clip and then start a new one. How often do you see a single continuous clip lasting more than a few minutes in a Hollywood movie?

that happens due to contact/virus ,so formate the card.Clean the contacts of the card/card reader of the camers,if needs chaque the proper connections .

Use a separate card reader..it will download your videos to a folder you create on your desktop.

How about turn the nobe on the top. It is on the movie part. so it is recording movie. Change it to P or some other letter. You should be able to take picture now. good luck

I'm afraid that Sony did not think that this was an important feature. The camera is inherently limited to ~10 minutes. There's nothing you can do to make this happen. See this page from Sony (it's a google cached version because the actual Sony page was down when I checked). Scroll down to where it says "MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode"

When I turn my Syber shot 6.0 mega pixels on it shows only a white or dark display. The fotos taken are the same. It seems that something is not opening the lens. What is the problem and how can I fix it?
