My Canon ZR400 has issues in playback. Sometimes it works normally, most of the time I see a gray "filmstrip" like bar and then moving image on the side. Sometimes various images freeze while I can see the main footage still playing in part of the screen. Sometimes it is a combination of the bar and frozen images.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I bought a mini DV head cleaner tape and tried it three times for 10 seconds as per the instructions. This did not help unfortunately.

Then why would the same problem be visible through the display through the view piece?

Have you tried a head cleaner tape? I would run that through and see if that helps at all.
Thank you,
Lee

    Hi,
I am not sure what your meaning is to your reply. It wouldn't matter if it happened in both screens. Like I said clean the heads and that might solve your problem.
    Thank you,
    Lee

The issue you have described indicates a problem with the LCD display. Since it works ok sometimes I think that the display connector is loose. Next time when the lines appear tap on the camcorder and see if it affects the image and post back with your observations.

I do not think display related issues can be solved by using head cleaner tape. Like a said, it has got to be related to the connectors. I think the display itself is ok coz you get image sometimes. I am sorry this is not probably you were expecting, but I just gave you a direct answer(to clean the head bla bla bla etc.,) without beating around the bush.

    Regards,
    Sai.

Sorry. I did not understand what you meant by "same problem visible through view piece"
    What is view piece?

Hope this info will help you.

    Thanks.

Picture goes black with gray fuzzy lines ~ 1/2" apart horizontal.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following
symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can
examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life
of your monitor or TV by several years.
Take it to a repair shop.

Fast forward or insert another tape. Then record something for 15-30 seconds. Then try your playback again. Worked for us.

Wont record anything to MiniDV tape and A/D randomly working

Hello,

Sorry about delayed reply as I just saw it.

Its known problem of ccd imager in Canon ZR85 camcorder and ccd imager needs to be replaced.

Canon will repair your camcorder free of cost as per announced scheme for ccd imager issue.

Click Canon CCD Advisory for details, how to get free repair.

Regarding can't see picture or time code in playback, it is problem of dirty / clogged video heads. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette to clean heads and hope camera will show playback picture.

Good luck.

I have a canon SD 580. When I playback the video clip it's always in fast forward mode and I can't play it normal speed. Any help?

Make sure you are shooting your movies in "Standard" mode. If you have the mode set to something else, especially "Time Lapse", the playback may not match 'natural' motion.

In any case, you can control the speed of the playback. When you first enter the movie playback mode, there should be a movie control bar along the bottom of the LCD. Instead of the "Play" button, select the "Slow Motion Playback" button (single arrow with single bar next to the normal Play button), and control the speed with the left or right arrows on the multi-controller.

Sounds like a corrupted video driver.
Have her do a system restore.
Then get an updated driver off Dells Support pages..

Transfering video to Mac

Digital video on the ZR400 is transferred to a computer only via the DV out port, which will connect to a firewire port on a PC or a Mac. USB will not transfer video, only images to and from the card.
