Power/ Ground Problem. Im running a 6ga Power wire to the battery (approx 6')with a 40amp fuse. The amp turns on, then about 10 seconds later blows the fuse. The ground is the same ga wire and is grounded about 2' away from the amp.

Would I have the same issue if I used 4ga instead of 6ga cable? Thanks for the input.

1. Start by undoing your ground.
2. Use a jumper cable to hook up the ground to the battery ground.
3. Install fuse and test.

If it continues to blow you have an internal amp problem.

If it fails to blow a fuse you have a problem with the chassis ground.

If it is a ground issue you can chase down the various ground straps and clean the connections or you can run another ground cable to the chassis (body) ground to the battery to reestablish the connection.

Yes I feel you could still have the same problem if your ground was questionable regardless of the wire size.

Radio quit working

Sounds like someone shorted the wires...you need to look into the entire butcher job and see what wires were touched. Disconnect everything the butcher did and then see if your battery is still drainning power.

2001 mustang v6 automatic convertible keeps blowing fuse #10 (park, tail lamps)

The fuse doesn't blow till you turn on the light switch? If it blows before turning on light switch, look for a short to ground between fuse box and light switch.
If it blows after turning on light switch, I believe they make a short finder tool.

My amp keeps blowing its fuses whenits plugged in

Go over all your wiring. Make sure your power wire isn't grounded somewhere. If your power wire is touching any bare metal it will spark and blow the fuse the second you touch the power to your amp. Make sure your in-line fuse is about a foot from your battery, and make sure you have your ground wire grounded securely to the main chassis of the car/truck and that it is either same size gauge as your power or even a little bit bigger gauge. Also make sure no strands of wire from your ground or power wire are loose and reaching over touching the other where you plug them into the amp. If the ground and power touch eachother they will blow the fuse and possibly cause permanent damage to the amp.

The fuse in the red wire that connects to the battery blows everytime i connect the negative and positive up 2 my battery. it blows when i dont even have the red chord hooked up 2 the amp. whats the...

Hello super11dt,

Sounds like the power and ground wire are shorting. Check the power wire with a multimeter. Sometimes, the insulation gets rubbed off and it contacts the vehicle metal causing a short. The solution is to pull a new wire and install a grommet or bushing wherever it goes through the firewall.

Actually, the negative (ground) wire should not be run to the battery at all. It should be secured to the metal of the vehicle as close to the amp as you can get, preferably within about 3 feet.

Hope this helps.

Using 12 gague wire on a 250 watt amp blowing fuse

Oh my yes. I would recommend number 4 as a minimum. Use the same size for the ground. Bond it to the body in the best way you can. Use a CAD welder if you know anyone in the pipeline industry.

But ideally, run the biggest guage you can afford. and FUSE IT!! Zero Guage or better, and buy a fuse block and put it at the battery. Otherwise your crash could be a crash and burn.

Lanzar amp

If it keeps blowing fuses then #1 its internally damaged or "blown" .. Or #2 i would make sure you have the battery power hooked up to the + terminal and the ground wire running from the car body to the - terminal.. so if its hooked up correctly and keeps blowing fuses then it requires repair.. I wish i had better news but thats all it can be...

Amp wont power on

The only effective way to troubleshoot this is with a digital multimeter. Test for voltage on the power terminal and the remote terminal (using the ground terminal for your black probe). If you have voltage on both terminals, check the amp's built-in fuses; if they're good, then you must have a defective amp. If you have voltage on the remote terminal, but none on the power terminal, check your fuse and fuse holder at the front. It's not unusual to have a blown or defective fuse that looks okay.
