My emachine T2958 would not boot. the fans run but no bois nothing. i realise on the mother board alight is on by the letter F.Is it the motherboard ? help please

A good way to tell is disconnect your hard drive's, & CD/DVD ROM's power & data cable. Try to boot.

If you get the same results then you can try & remove any PCI cards from the board, remove your ram stick. Try to boot. If you get an error beep because you are missing ram than this is good.

Replace 1 ram stick back into your motherboard & try again. If it boots then you know the other stick is bad.

If removing all the non-essentials from your motherboard doesn't work then all you have left are the motherboard & power supply. A simply power supply tester or spare power supply will tell you if it is your board or not.

I have a T5026 EMachine won't power up. Green light on motherboard is on , could it be the switch , tried putting a new power supply box in it.

to see if the power swithc is the problem-

first, try to isolate the wire that connects the power switch to the motherboard. once you have deternined where the power switch plugs, then remove the wires from the motherboard leads and try to short the leads by connecting them with a metal device like a screwdriver tip. if the switch is broken, it will boot when shorted with the screwdriver. if it still will not boot, then you probably need either a new motherboard or a new cpu.

It sounds like a power supply failure. Do you plug it straight into the walll or into a surge protector. If you are close to a best buy, go to geek squad they will diagnose the issue for free but the fix is real simple. Let's just put it this way there are a few things that protect the motherboard from getting fried. If it is the PSU u are looking at roughly 40-60 dollars and it is a matter of 6 connections. Emachine D2880 no power clarification

your getting power to your PSU, via the green light on your mobo.
verify the PSU has a green light(most emachines do)
it sort of sounds stupid but, check the connection of the cable coming from the front of the case(the wires that connect to the mobo to the power button on the outside of the case.

if all else fails, take the pc out of the case.. put all components on a static free bag and start to rebuild your PC(without a case)
...this will rule out a short on the PC case, and faulty wiring from the case...

pretty much sounds like you've been through almost every step except replacing the PSU(you just said you tested/but your getting power to the PSU)

hope some of this helped

Emachine 3240 possible power problem?

I would suggest try to swap the power supply out with another known good power supply.

I've seen where even though the light on the motherboard is lit, it is not getting enough power to start the machine up, especially if you have a higher end video card connected to it.

Emachine won't turn on

With an Emachine it can be the power supply or the motherboard.

My guess it is the capacitors on the motherboard. Check to see if the round cylinders on the motherboard are bulging on the ends, and possibly rusty looking. Esp around the Main CPU/Fan.

They are notorious for bad capacitors.

If the caps look good, it still could be the motherboard, or maybe the power supply. Switcing out the power supply is pretty easy.

Unplug
disconnect all the power connectors
unscrew the 4 screws on the back of the computer
remove and replace the power supply.
Make sure you get a power supply with as much power, or more is much better. 350 watt or higher.

EMachine T2824 does not turn on. Power cord/power supply seems O.K.

There are just too many eMachine models to be familiar with every one, however, as a preliminary inspection, remove the side panel, and turn the computer on to see if you see a green "Health" light. This will give you an initial clue as to how to pursue the problem. eMachines have historically had power supply problems. If you do not see a green health light on the motherboard, then your power supply is defective. A power supply supplies various voltages + - 5V, + - 12V ,etc. A power supply can be easily tested by a local shop with the proper test equipment. You might start there if you are a DIY! Short of that, you can purchase a power supply for under $65.00.

T2958 motherboard connections

Sounds like a power supply problem, I would check out a power supply tester, usually about 19 bucks, but now adays you can buy a decent power supply for 20 bucks, but before you can and spend money, be sure that everything is connected properly. im searching google now for the pin locations, but if you know what type of motherboard, it will make my search so much easier. ***reply to your other post*** all you need to do to get the hard drive to work in another machine is format the Master Boot Record
