Sub-woofer driver rattle/buzz.

i would suggest replacing it rather than fixing. The cost of the repair will be about the same.
if you went to a passive sub/seperate power amp setup you could get a much higher quality unit, but it would cost you considerably more cash.

As mentioned above, a blown 2200 uF capacitor will cause that buzz. This is from my Altec VS4621. The buzz would be in the sub, then shift to the speakers if connected. I didn't examine the buzz all that long because it's loud af, but you can see the right capacitor is blown and open. IMO it's worth repairing, the caps are about 2 dollars per batch (20), plus time. You can watch plenty of videos on it, or bring some dollars to most repair shops.

ur sub wont buzz due to bad speaker. either u have a faulty preamp or power amp. yes it can be repaired and will not cost much. if it is loud and annoying, get it repaired. sometimes subs emit low hum when powered up. this is the way the are desinged.

You will need an amplifier or 2 channel receiver. Hook the sub out rca jack to the rca inputs on this new amp or receiver and hook the speaker terminals on sub to speaker terminals on same amp or receiver. Your Yamaha receiver doesn't have any power for a passive sub.Just pick up any old fairly high powered receiver for fifty dollars and you're good to go.I use old dolby pro logic receivers as they are a dime a dozen today. Your sub woofer is not mean for voice sound...check that you have connected the systen up properly and that you have put the sub woofer into its wn connection..if it is in the right connection the woofer could be blown.also try decrease the midrange hurts on the woofer

if the impedance of the new speaker matches the impedance of the old one then i dont see why it wont work

Any powered sub-woofer will work with it. Check the back of the Technics, make sure there is an RCA output labeled "Sub-woofer" or "Woofer" or "Sub". If so, you can get any brand of powered sub woofer and it will work. A powered sub-woofer is one with an amplifier for the sub built into the box and you will need to plug it into an A/C outlet as well. The only exceptions to what will work with this unit is to make sure you are not buying a sub-woofer that is made to only work with the companion unit it is originally sold with. Many Panasonic and JVC sub woofers are like this. Just look for a sub-woofer that is not part of any system. Velodyne makes some really great sub-woofers that would work nice with yours, but they can be a little expensive, but they are very good.

If your Technics has no RCA output for the sub-woofer, you will need to make sure that whatever powered sub-woofer you buy has a speaker level input for it. Most powered sub-woofers have this feature, so that you may just run the front speaker outputs of the receiver into the subwoofer and then the sub-woofer will have a set of speaker outputs right below the speaker inputs so you can still have your front speakers connected to that and not loose anything from your system.

Chances are if The Receiver only has sound in Stereo Direct Mode and all surround modes and Sub out are Inop the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Card is most likey defective. These boards are not available from marantz (D&M Holdings) and must be Component level repaired which usually is not cheap. If Only the Sub out is not working check setup to be sure sub woofer is set for on. Also If On Screen setup menu does not appear on video monitor Unit may need to be Reset manually which entails discharging a Capaitor on main P.C.B Contact [email protected] for details
