I own a KP-57HW40 set that has a color and shut off issue. Started as a green tinge problem to the screen after watching for a few hours. Started becoming more and more frequent a couple months ago. Noticed that the blue bulb was flickering. Then yesterday the green tinge would start within 10 minutes of turning on and occasionally the picture would flicker to a blue screen and then turn off by itself. The standby light would flash 8 times. I can put up with the green tinge but the screen turning off I cannot. What kind of things would need to be repaired to fix these issues?

Sony rear projection kp-577hw40, screen turns red after being on for 10 minutes

This model and some others had bad picture tubes that are no longer available---there is an option here.

If screen gets bright red, green, or blue set will shut down as it detects too much current being drawn.

Seen over 100 with this issue--what can be tried and usually will help is a physical adjustment inside the set.

No parts to replace and takes about 15 minutes to do.

I can tell you how if you want to know.

Green flashes then tv turns off

or a new lamp. you could first replace the lamp.
the screen might work fine for a couple of seconds, but then it fades away or deteriorates. This means the lamp is going bad.

Green flashes

It is a defective green CRT and most likely the red and blue will need to be replaced as well. This was a known issues with this year of Sony projection TV's.
