My son crack the LCD glass on his 204T SyncMaster

After numerous hot and cooling cycles solder joint have been known to go bad and or crack.

That problem could be caused by either bad capacitors on the power supply board or a bad back light bulb in the panel. The first thing to check would be the capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a link with a few pictures of how to dis-assemble the unit and what to look for. The tops of the capacitors should be flat, if they are domed or have any bulging then they need to be replaced. If all of the capacitors look good then it is most likely the back light bulb. This can be replaced by it is much more involved.

That is not an ink spot, that indicates the LCD panel is cracked and the "ink" is the liquid parts of the "liquid crystal display" LCD that is coming out from the broken glass. When you have a broken LCD panel you just need to get a new monitor, the panels are not repairable and to replace one will cost almost as much as a new monitor.

I just started having the same problem! The green light flashes, but the monitor is blank. None of the button work (menu, source, etc...) and nothing changes when I disconnect it from the computer. I was suspecting a bad graphics card at first, but now I'm thinking the monitor itself is bad?!

If the outside panel is intact, then the crack may be on the LCD panel, located beneath the protective glass panel.

If the Sat Nav is less than one year old, then the replacement will be done free of charge.

The front glass is just a protector for the LCD screen. If your TV turns on and the picture looks ok (may be a little color variation around the crack if front glass is pushing on it, variation OK black Bad) If the picture looks within the range described then replace the glass. It is just a piece of standard glass and a pretty easy diy job. If the LCD screen is broken the repair will be more than the replacement cost. Sad fact US TV repairmen make a living wage while the workers that assembled you TV wouldn't be able to buy lunch here with what they made putting it together.

Try to replace C110 and C111 in the power supply circuit. These are 820uF caps and are in parallel. I had slow start and a flicker on this same monitor. Replacing the caps fixed it. Good luck, Ryan

I'm sorry, but it sounds like you have a damaged LCD panel, and that can't be repaired. Check carefully to see if it's just the outer plastic that has cracks, but if the lines seem to be "electronic" colored lines you're probably out of luck.

It's very likely that the LCd "inverter" is bad. This is a module that provides the high voltages needed to light the 4 cold-cathode lamps that provide the white backlight. Search for other samsung problems with inverter and you should find several. The one I saw was for 17" LCDs and the 204T is probably using a different module. Should be able to find replacement online, but be prepared to take the monitor back cover off, with tiny screws and connectors.
