Select the model motherboard you have and click on the CPU support link, it will show you a list of CPU's that are supported. You have a socket 939 board and AMD CPU's are now AM2, AM2+ and AM3 socket, which are 940 pin. It may be difficult to find a new CPU for your motherboard that is new since they have not been made in awhile.

Hello, I am the technician that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya, Roger Gross.

Yes your new AMD Athlon 2 X2 255 processor is made to fit both AM2+ or AM3 sockets.

Since your current socket is 754, you will need a new mainboard and DDR3 RAM to go with your new processor.

ASUS make very good mainboards. The ASUS M4A88TD-M EVO/USB3 mainboard is a good companion for your new processor. Install DDR3 1333MHz CL9 RAM from either Kingston or Corsair. 2X2GB modules should do nicely.

Feel free to contact me should you require additional assistance.

Take care!

I am using amd sempron LE-1100 i want to upgrade to a gaming pc so that i can play the sims3. so if i like to upgrade to amd athlon x2 how to know my socket type. please help

Your socket is AM2. You can put any AMD processor that has AM2. If the processor is AM3 just upgrade the bios of your motherboard and it should work. If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Cheers

I would like to upgrade my cpu processor

My best advice for this is to not buy it alone, or go in blindly. You should take it to a computer shop, even best buy - take it in with you and their team of experts will gladly help you.

Fastest CPU available for the K7N2G?

Look for socket A processors and ignore the XXXX+ and focus on the XXXXMHz rating (the MoBo's manufacturer's support site will give you the max processor your Board will handle). Since you mention that your MoBo is 4 to 5 years old, you'll probably better serve yourself to replace the MoBo and processor (you'll be able to upgrade to a much better/faster processor by upgrading both, and shouldn't cost that much more), and probably be happier with the result. You may want/need to upgrade your Power supply while you are at it too.
