If the yellow button will not function, theres possibly a bit of dirt-salt or debris under the Button.
this usually happens when you play a game and eat at the same time. your hands get covered in grease-salt and other stuff.
Then you,ll pick up the controller, as you start hitting the buttons.
The dust-dirt or whatever goes in between the button, and the carbon contact pad on the controllers circuit board.
this will have to be dismantled and cleaned.
I,ve repaired a few of these, you,ve either got to strip and clean it internally, or replace it.
The moral of the story ** Don,t eat and Play** unless you wipe your hands regular.

You can repair your drums actually for pretty reasonable! Here is a link to a video on how to repair the drums yourself, you'll have to purchase the cable yourself, but you can find one if you search eBay for "guitar hero drum cable"
This usually occurs when you are not holding the guitar level (The handle is upwards). If you wish to only
have the star power activate when you initiate it, you should make sure
the guitar is level while you are playing so you can tilt it to
activate the star power. Alternatively, you can press the back button
to active the star power (if you are holding the guitar properly, you
can activate it by pressing down on the guitar with your wrist).

I have the same problem with my guitar, when it really starts to act up
I just pull out the upper piece and blow on the connectors, it works a
little better after that but then it starts dying again. I'm pretty
sure that your controller is just starting to die. Sorry
They are not compatible. The Rock Band 2 instruments are supposed to be compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour, but Rock Band and Guitar Hero III instruments don't work together.

is your guitar plugged in?
if its wireless youll have to click the link button on the back or side of the guitar. this is a power saving mode.
