Not tuning properly after being switched OFF at mains ( not on battery operation). I receive the Inverness area DAB package of normally 23 stations ( 12BBC and 11 commercial ) BUT when I did the Autotune Full operation as I have always done only 15 stations tuned in ( 12BBC and only ' heat ' and the 2 local ones of Moray Firth ) No Classic., Talk Sport or any of the other national stations always on DAB!!!!
What is the problem ??? Signal quality reads in the 90s and Signal strength shows mainly 8 bars which I feel should be more than adequate to tune ALL the available stations!!!
Will I have to Reset somehow my beloved Sharp DAB radio which has not given trouble over the last 2-3 yrs since I was given it as a b'day present?
Help, Help, Help - my dear wife is falling apart not being able to hear CLASSIC FM her favorite radio station apart from Premier( which is not on DAB here yet).
Colin the troubled husband!!!
This is SwannerX and I have solved the problem by locating the DAB radio receiver to a higher position ( some 6ins. higher only ) and orienteering the aerial in an opposite direction.
All 25 stations now tune O.K. and signal quality still reads in the high 90's and signal strength shows 9-10 bars. This is not substantially any more , but it has done the trick!!!
I am still very puzzled why it would not work again in the original position where it has worked well for many years.
Obviously DAB requires a good strong signal as I am living very close to the transmitter at Mounteagle in the Black Isle and the set is upstairs in the house to achieve the highest signal into the set's whip aerial.
Another annoying query I can give you is this :- Every time I do a full AutoTune operation on the DAB receiver , it ALWAYS comes ON tuning BBC Asian 1st. so that station comes up as a 'Favorite' on the Radio's screen. No matter how many other stations I select and listen to for at least 20secs. say, the BBC Asian one STILL is listed as a FAV.
Is this a peculiarity of the Sharp design or a function of the transmission system?
Maybe this BBC Asian is on the first freq. the DAB Radio scans, but I would have thought it would come ON every time with the last station which was selected before it was switched OFF.
What do you think ???

I have experienced the same tuning problems as swannerX's - playing with aerial orientation plus shortening aerial to about 300mm has worked. I use mine on mains only but the two 'AA' batteries charge level seem important to station tuning. I use rechargeable 'AA' batteries and get tuning problems when charge levels are low. Switch your set off at mains for 1-2 mins and install new 'AA batteries with over 2000 mAh rating and then try run full tune.
I agree that this Sharp FV-DB1E is sensitive to good reception - I'm in West Yorkshire and Radio 2 is sometimes better on FM than DAB, Ive assumed this to be atmosphere conditions. I get a healthy 32 stations including two test ones and the bird song. Virgin has just changed to Absolute now.
