New free spirit treadmill - L5 code what does it mean?

I have just purchased and assembled a free spirit treadmill - plugged it in and it starts and appears to be working - then 10 second it shuts down and shows L5 in the time display and shows "slow speed" in the main display. I just brought this home!

Yeah - the sensor is the problem... It is magnetic... You can find it next to the wheel on the belt - It is fairly small.... There is a metal disc in the wheell on the belt that is a magnet.. As it passes by the sensor - the sensor registers the magnet and can simply calculate speed based on the frequency of the passes... Sometimes the sensor slides too far back and ergo can`t register the magnet passing by - Then you get the L5 error...

I thought that might be my issue, too, but when i took the cover off, there was a lot of dust and hair in there so I think it was covering the sensor! I cleaned it up and it was good to go! Glad to have seen this post! THANKS!!

Thank you so much for this post. I have a much older treadmill(2004) but it has the same sensor set up and your suggestion worked perfectly.

This seems to be a speed sensor problem, maybe this evil alineadoo simply no longer works and must be changed. You should also check the wires that go to the card

My precore 9.43 starts to run then in 5 seconds turns itself off. Says ERROR- nothing more.

proceed according and fix it. God bless you

1 )Locate the reset switch on the underside of the treadmill console. Usually the button is large enough to trigger with a pencil eraser or Q-tip. Plug the treadmill plug back into the wall. Use the Q-tip to press the reset button. It may be necessary to hold the reset button down for a few seconds. "CL11" will appear in the display of the treadmill.

Press the reset button one more time with the Q-tip. "CL21" should appear on the screen. Press the enter key. The display will change again and show "CL22." Keep pressing the enter key until the numbers cycle through to the number "CL26." Press enter one more time. The letter E should appear on the display screen.

Freespirit Treadmill

Did you try it before you bought it and it was working. when you move the unit and pluged it into the wall outlet was it on? if yes then you may have damaged the lower board. If you can not get that part then the treadmill has died. Is it a Bowflex or a Free spirit.

I’m happy to help further over the phone at
