I have this washer and the mode switch (normal/heavy duty agitation switch) went bad, which stopped it mid-cycle. Replaced it and no more problems. Mine only pops a breaker if you have a heavy load in it that's off-balance during the spin cycle. This is a cheap fix, try it!

Why does it work in all cycles except heavy duty?

I think I answered this before. Get an electrician to check the motor windings etc to see if there is a problem under load.

The best guess is that you have a bad thermostat. When the compressor shuts off it has to stay off for a long enough period of time for the low pressure high pressure to equalize. If it turns the compressor off and back on immediately it can't start against the heavy load created by these unequal pressures. If it will start every time after sitting for 10 minutes the thermostat is making it short cycle.

70 Series Kenmore Washer Agitates in Heavy Duty regardless of switch selection

Yours is a 2 speed motor. Does it spin in 2 different speeds. If so, then it most likely is designed with only to agitate in 1 speed. If it only spins in one speed, then your motor is defective

Kenmore washer spins on gentle cycle but not on regular cycle

It sounds like you have a busted coupler. It's what connects the motor to the transmission. They will bust, letting the machine work unless it's under a load. It then spreads out and the motor shaft spins inside the coupler.

Kenmore Heavy Duty Dryer

If the dryer is still powered on but the motor stops, it sounds like the over load in the motor is cutting out and the motor will have to be replaced.

Washer problem

THE SPEED SELECTOR SWITCH MAY BE SHORTED CAUSING THE MOTOR TO TRY AND RUN ON BOTH THE LOW AND HIGH SPEED WINDINGS. THIS WILL PULL TOO MUCH CURRENT AND TRIP THE BREAKER.
THE MOTOR WINDINGS FOR THE HIGH SPEED COULD BE SHORTED CAUSING EXCESSIVE CURRENT DRAW.

Kenmore series 80 washer only works right on hevy duty load

CHECK SEE IF MOTOR IS SEIZED BY TIPPING MACHINE FORWARD AND SEE IF YOU CAN TURN THE MOTOR BY HAND. IF MOTOR TURNS FREELY , YOU HAVE A START CAPACITOR PROBLEM.
