There are 4 different versions sound card drivers for this Dell Dimension model (4600).
Go to 4600 and select Audio then download which version from the list for your desktop.

It sounds as though you need a sound driver reinstalled go to the dell techsupport and driver web site all kinds of drivers there just give them your model and other info they may need good luck hope i helped:)

Up graded my Dell Demension 4550 from XP to Windows 7 and like so many people can not get my sound to work. Are there indeed any drivers for the SB 0200 sound card out there that will get it to work with...

Here is only drivers for win xp.

Install a soundcard in the pci socket and make sure the driver is supported for your windows system.

How do i open my Dell dimensions 4600 to install
Just lay it over on its right hand side, there a button on the top and the bottom, press these both at once and lift. It will just hinge up and give you plenty of access. When closing just make sure its lined up and it simply clicks back into place. Cheers from Scott

Scratchy sound coming out of my PC speakers and the sound does not turn off I have to keep the volume control on mute.
Check the cords and all connections between soundcard and speakers. You can troubleshoot by connecting a different pair of speakers (switch it over while the computer is turned off). If the problem goes away, then it's the speakers. If not, then it's the computer.

If this is a clean install (formatted drive and reinstalled) then the likelihood of it being a driver issue is greatly reduced. Did you download the drivers from Dell?
Secondly, the fact that the audio works makes me think it is a hardware issue. Since audio and the mic are connected in the device manager, the easiest solution might be to replace the sound with a PCI soundcard. They are fairly inexpensive, and they will generally include the drivers with the disk.

Vista Ultimate = no sound
Looks like you need to buy a new soundcard. Creative Labs makes an excellent 7.1 digital card for PCI slot that is relatively cheap. Just make sure when you purchase the card, it is Vista Compatable.

WANT INFO ON dELL d5110 TOWER PC it has many issues of non working or not properly working and it's files move so Windows can't find them making it rather useless. It has an infrastructure wifi system that never worked but is virus clean, hardly used (like brand new)along with refusing most programs that can rectify these problems. The 'shop' said they're clueless. Am I going to have to replace it-most likely?!
