RX-V2600 Yamaha Optical connection from a TIVO 3 box. Some commercials I receive only a bass sound from, no audio. It changes when the next things starts, i.e. another commercial or the main program.

It's possible that the issue with the sound in Zone 3 on your Yamaha RX-V1800 is related to the settings on the receiver or TV. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the problem:
Check the audio settings on the TV: Make sure that the audio output on the TV is set to "Optical" or "Digital."
Check the audio settings on the receiver: Ensure that the audio input for Zone 3 is set to "Optical" or "Digital" and that the correct input source is selected for that zone.
Try a different optical cable: If the cable is damaged, you may need to replace it to get sound from your TV to the receiver.
Check for firmware updates: Yamaha may have released firmware updates for the RX-V1800 that address this issue. Visit Yamaha's website to see if any updates are available.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to consult the user manual or contact Yamaha's customer support for further assistance.
The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable.
Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.
If it is plugged in to a working outlet, and the AC cord is not broken, there is a problem in the power supply of the receiver. This provides all of the DC voltages that make all functions work. If it is completely dead, the display, the lights, the audio, (everything) is not working; and it is not likely there are separate problems in all of these areas at the same time.
I left it on the page dealing with firmware. So you can update the firmware with a computer and the right cable. Be advised though it might give you issues if the CMOS is corrupted, Read the whole service guide.
Have you checked the speaker connections as requested? How about disconnecting all speakers and seeing what happens? If it works, you have a shorted speaker or wire.
You can do a couple of things depending on your unspecified TV and/or cable box:
For vanilla TV stereo (at best) audio: if the TV has RCA audio out jacks, run them to DTV/CBL or TV input.
For cable box (potentially multichannel) audio, if your cable box has a digital coaxial or optical audio out, run it to one of the digital in's on the receiver.
The RX-V2600 is first generation HDMI and the firmware is HDMI 1.1a or b It will not pass video via HDMI. It's not a Yamaha problem, it was an HDMI problem. Every receiver with 1.1 or 1.2 firmware has issues. The newest version is 1.3b and so far so good. I'm a home integrator and still am leary of HDMI for that very reason! expensive cables too! if you are viewing on a TV 50" or smaller, the human eye cannot see the difference between 720p and 1080p. if your TV is bigger, run the HDMI directly to the TV and run Digital Coaxial or Optical audio to your receiver. That is the only solution. Hope this helps
When you connect the optical cable to the ps3 you must change the output to optical on the ps3. To do this, startup your ps3 then go to settings then audio output settings and change it to Digital Out (Optical).
