Just like another post in this thread mentioned, your radio has a switch on it that, when set to the channel 9 setting will go to 9 automatically. Same with channel 19 if selected will always default to 19. Set this switch to either CB or NOR for normal operation and you will be able to select any other channel.

The orange wire goes to a fuse that is always on. That's how it remembers things when it is powered down.Like the clock on a Car stereo.

Hi larry, That is a normal ch 9 default on electronic channel changers. Small midlands/cobras also do that. Try taking the red/hot power wire loose and attaching it to a power source that is hot all the time. That way there will be power going to the radio with the key shut off and it should retain the last channel you were on.
Hope this is what you were looking for, let us know,, Mechanic

Just installed midland 1001z. When powered up, it sequentially flashes the channels (1,2,3,...etc.) over and over, but never stops so I can't tune it to a station. The exception is that when I flip the ch....

Well the CB you have should not cycle through channels like that for sure. It is not a progressive scan. Try messing with the channel 9/normal switch again. In rare occasions that switch will **** to the side just a tad. there is a PCB board inside that is responsible for the channels responding to the channel as the channel knob is turned. This board could be going haywire. If fooling with that switch does not take care of the issue then I would contact the person you got the Midland from immediately and have them get you one that works properly.

What is the DW button/switch for on the Cobra 18 WX ST II?

It is dual watch. you can set it to have two channels monitored. like ch 1 and ch 13 it will flip between those two channels. but if you use say 6, 19, 26 along with another ch it will stay on the channel with the most noise. and you would have to turn up the squelch to compensate.
