Question about Panasonic Televison & Video
1. Panasonic DMR-EX85 DVD recorder used to work fine
2. Panasonic DMR-EX85 recorder can replay previously recorded programs from HDD OK
3. For not apparent reason Panasonic DMR-EX85 recorder has stopped decoding digital TV signals
4. Panasonic DMR-EX85 recorder auto scan function does ot show any digital TV cahnnels but -
(a). When a separate digital settop box is connected in place of the Panasonic DMR-EX85 recorder, the set top box works OK and shows 11 digital TV signals in SD and 6 digital TV signals in HD which the set top box decodes OK
(b). The the set top box also shows that the both the analogue and digital TV signals are good.
Dry joint - faulty capacitor on the PC board of the decoder. Found by wiggling the components and resoldering

Check that C1801 is not leaky. If so, check if IC1801 has blown. If it has blown, it will also need to be replaced.
Usually it's only C1801 leaky, replace it and thats it.
You can find the capacitor on the main board, under the digital board that has ribbon cables going to the dvd drive.
