You must have a 3rd or 4th gen Ipod. It should not do this with a reset. If you reformat it through Itune , then it will. The plug into a power outlet means it is trying to reformat. If it will not, your hard drive is corupted or logic board. If it is the hard drive and you can get it to show on your computer, you can go to your disc utilities and erase the hard drive by writing zeros. then connect to Itunes and reformate. Plug into a power wall charger and it should complete. You need a good charge in your battery. If your battery is not charging or needs to charge , that will stop it from completing a reformat. I hope this helps.

My ipod screen went black while it was playing.

When this happened to my ipod, I followed these instructions on the apple web site and it did the trick. The problem happens periodically.

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

I want to reset my ipod because it is not responding

alandtonipea:

From the Apple support web site article HT1320 (click here):

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time are preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

My iPod Nano Died And I Just Bought A New USB Cord And It Wont Charge Or Turn On...It'll Just Show A Little Apple For 2 Seconds Then Go Back To A Black Screen...How Can I Fix This.!?

Welcome to Fixya

Looks like the software just hanged-up on you. Try to reset the Ipod by following the procedures below.

1st option:
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until the Apple logo appears).
You may need to repeat the reset several times.
If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.

2nd option (Disk Mode):
Plug the iPod into a high-powered USB port, let it sit for 2 hours, then disconnect it. If you have a wall charger, plug in the iPod, then follow these steps while it is still plugged in.
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears
Immediately switch your figures to press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until "Disk Mode" appears at the top.
For a lot of people, this solves the problem. Connect the iPod to the computer and (assuming it shows up) reset the iPod again to get it out of Disk Mode. If at this point you still have the white screen, restore the iPod using the restore function in iTunes under the Summary tab (this will erase everything on the iPod and put it at factory settings).
Note: Do not disconnect or eject the iPod until the store is totally done. After you think it's done, wait another five minutes.

Cheers!

I'm not sure which version you have, but most iPods will respond once they have been reset. Follow this link to the Apple site with instructions for resetting your particular iPod. Good luck!

Ipod show plug in

This is the result of a firmware update.

You need to plug it into an Apple wall charger rather than a generic USB charger in order to complete the firmware update.

If you have used an Apple charger already then take your iPod to an Apple store as they can remedy this.

You could try resetting the ipod. On my ipod photo, you have to turn the hold switch on then off, then hold down the Menu and select buttons for 10 sec's. It takes a few tries :>.
