According to brother, the only driver downloads available for the MFC-420CN Printer are as follows:
98 / ME / 2000 / XP / XP x64 / Vista / Vista x64 / 2003 / 2003 x64 / 2008 / 2008 x64

However, it has been reported that Windows 7 may be able to recognize the driver using the Vista driver, and installed it in Vista compatibility mode.

Yes, just use Windows 7 Update function to install proper drivers automatically. The drivers provided by Brother on CD do not work, though.

If you buy something that says compatible with windows 7 and it makes no mention of 64 bit anywhere it usually means they are saying it is compatible with the 32bit version of windows 7. Is your windows 32 or 64 bit?

Goto Windows 7 compaitbility site from Google search bar and check if that model of dongle is compatible with Windows 7 or not. If it is compatible go to the support site for that Dongle Company and search for the upgarde drivers for it.If it is not compatible then consult and buy a Windows 7 compatible Dongle.

Check your software Compatibility for windows 7, go to Windows 7 Compatibility Center at Microsoft.

If your version is not compatible you have to check the software site for any newer version which support the Win 7 OS.

You can try the compatibility mode in Win 7, but there is no guarantee it will work.

Programs released before the market release of Windows 7 are most likely XP and Vista compatible only. What I recommend is to check the websites of those programs for available updates or upgrades. Newer versions of software are Windows 7 compatible.
