NOTE : steps below are only for a Dell monitor
There could be two reasons for the same,
1. The monitor settings are bad or
2. The monitor has gone bad.
Request you to disconnect the monitor signal cable from the back of the computer (cable with the blue jack)
A self test feature check would run on the screen. If the screen is bright in the feature check . The monitor has gone bad and needs a replacement.
If the screen appears ok in the self test . Press the menu button on the monitor and select factory reset.

the self test feature check works but its like the black screen goes from black on the upper right to gray fade towards the lower left
