The error 79 on that machine means that the scanner assembly has failed to align/calibrate. Could be due to a bad calibration strip on the scanner glass, have you ever sprayed glass cleaner directly onto the scanner glass? If so this can stain the calibration strip and render the scanner useless. It is probably best to have the machine serviced by HP.

Hello,

Your issue is caused by dust in the scanner optics. Here is a link to a web page with instructions on cleaning the optics and clearing the error.

How does the bulb look? Is it bright or kind of dim. The bulb warming error is designed to halt use of the machine until the scanner bulb reaches the correct output level. As these are basically a flourescent tube, they will dim over time and at a certain point they will not generate enough light to enable proper scanning. If the bulb is dim, it will require replacement.

Scanner bulb warnning

Hello,

The 'scanner warming up' error is caused by dirty scanner optics. What happens is the scanner initializes the lamp and starts reading the scanner pickup waiting for the light to get to a certain brightness level. When the optics get dirty from dust or smoke then the light getting to the scanner pickup is reduced so the unit thinks the scanner bulb has not reached the correct brightness so it says wait. What you will need to do is dis-assemble the top portion and clean the scanner optics. We have a step by step guide to do this procedure posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-laserjet-3330-scanner-warming-up-error/ This should get you back going again.

I hope this helps you out, if so please rate our solution.

Hp fax model 3330 is broken . At first it was very slow to warm up bulb and finally it stopped working all together and the screen says scanner error power on - off. The cancel light is blinking and...

Hello,

You are correct with your diagnostics, he problem is caused by dirty optics. The mirrors in the scanner have dust, lint or smoke on them. When the scanner powers up it tries to calibrate itself and waits for the bulb to warm up so the light output gets to a certain level. With the dirty optics the scanner never gets enough light so it thinks the scanner is still warming up and so it waits for the light to get brighter. After a few minutes of waiting and not getting the correct level of light it gives the power off message. We have a dis-assembly and cleaning guide with step by step instructions posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ This procedure takes about 30 minutes to complete but it should et you back going again.

I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.

After getting error 79 won't print

A solution:
  • Unplug
  • Hold down "*" & "enter/ menu buttons"
  • While holding down both buttons, turn power on
  • Wait until something like "initialize" shows up on the display
  • Let go of buttons
  • Wait until display reads "ready"
  • Unplug for 10 seconds, then plug back in
  • Hope it works for you

Fax and cancel lights are flashing

I found this solution at HP website. It worked for me. Good luck!

A Scanner Bulb Error message is received as a result of the HP LaserJet 3300mfp series product scanner’s inability to find the home reference point.
SOLUTION:
Perform the following steps to walk the scan assembly from the home base and resolve the issue.
1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.
2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to “walk out" and then quickly remove the plug again.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.
4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle.

Bulb never lights up,

Hi The option you have is to check and make sure the connection between the formatter and scanner formatter are properly seated. The 79 error you are getting means you should try and do a firmware upgrade it could be giving you a problem and more than likely fix the issue.

My printer takes a long time to warm up between uses.

Only the way to solve this problem is to change new flourescent lamp. I have encounterd it before and solved by changing flourescent lamp. But to change the lamp is a bit complicated job.
