Batteries can be purchased on line and may be available on ebay. Installation instructions with pix are also found on line and will guide you step by step thru the process.
Just do a search for Tom tom battery replacement and you'll find instructions.
I was thinking along the lines that the GO 920 would be similar to my GO720 for disassembly . I just did a search for 920 instruction and couldn't find any with pix, either. I did find the one posted here on Fixya back on Aug.23,2009 by k_r_parker that are only verbal. Since you've had your unit open and now know what it looks like inside, I'd suggest doing a search for TomTom GO720 battery replacement and see if the included photos resemble the innards of your unit. On my 720 there are 4 torx screws, 1 at each corner, holding the main circuit board to the back of the case, behind which the battery hides. Mine came out fairly easily.

Hello emissionwiz, I called Tomtom's customer service, said they do not repair units if no longer under warranty. Also said they do not recommend having them repaired. But they did offer to sale me a new one at a discount.
Hello sr248, I actually purchased an extended life battery and tools from e-bay. I went online and found some instructions on installing the battery. It is not as easy as instructed, infact, it is quite difficult to replace. I was able to remove the glass screen but not able to unscrew the torque screw inside. I gave up after an hour and decided to contact Tomtom customer service, who basically told me they could do nothing for me, except to offer me another unit at a discount. I would never purchase another TomTom device ever. This one cost me $500 and I just downloaded new maps about 2 weeks ago at a cost of $70. I'm not very happy. You did mention a site that shows pix...the site I found only gave instructions with no pix.
that really blows
You have to send it back to Tomtom for battery replacement.
