Replaced ink cartridges in Lexmark Z52. Now ink carrier slams to left or right and I get a "power surge" error message. I have disconnected and removed/replaced power and problem still exists.
Re: replaced ink cartridges in Lexmark Z52. Noe ink
There should be a clean program that you can run. First restart windows, then run the clean program, see if this helps, try and print. If you need more help re-post what you did and still have a problem.

Cartridges may not be seated properly. Remove all the cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Unplug the printer from the power source. Wait for about 10-15 seconds. Plug printer back to power source. If printer ink cartridge carrier still slams on the sides, encoder strip of the printer might be damaged. If it's still within warranty from where you bought it, have it replaced at that store. If ink cartridge carrier is not slamming to the sides, re-insert the cartridges. Make sure there are no obstructions along the carrier's path. Close the cover. Let the printer print the alignment page. If it's still going to slam the carrier, have it replaced.
The encoder strip is most likely the problem. Unplug the power from the printer. Open the front cover and move the cartridge carrier to the center. You should see a white ribbon cable, a thin plastic strip and a black belt with teeth.
The thin plastic strip is the encoder strip. It rides in a sensor on the back of the cartridge carrier that you will not be able to see. Reach in with the first finger of either hand and carefully strum the strip as if playing a guitar.
The strip will need to be lowered slightly and brought towards you slightly. Please be careful not to break the strip or your printer will not function. Once you believe the strip is set correctly, plug the power back and try printing the self test. If it slams to the left again, the strip is not yet set correctly.
If you cannot repair the strip, please let us know so that we can assist you further.
Please Note: Fixing the encoder strip is a delicate procedure. During the troubleshooting, if the strip breaks, you will not be able to use the printer.
If the printer carrier is slamming into the side of the printer, please try the following:
Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
Open the front cover of the printer where the cartridges are located.
Look for two black bands that span from left to right (they should have one serrated side and one smooth side). Just above the black bands there is a transparentstrip; this strip is called the Encoder strip.
Flick this strip lightly with your finger to make sure that it is running smoothly from left to right. You may need to do this two or three times. CAUTION: Do not pull the strip!
Close the front cover of the printer and reconnect the power supply.
If the problem persists, then its a hardware issue and you should contact Lexmark for replacement of the printer.
I have checked lexmark's website on troubleshooting this problem for you.

Hello,
First of all, let's start with some simple questions.
1 Was the cartridge ever refilled or is it in the original state?
2 How exactly did this occured?
I'm asking this because most printers have a limited space inside them for the cartridge to move around when printing. If they don't fit exactly as they should, they will most likely hit something in their movement when printing. If your cartridge was refilled maybe the person who did that didn't attached the cartridge top part properly and now it moved out of position and hits the inner top of the cartridge housing.
Please provide me first with these informations so I can better assist you.
