The Canon XL2 is the upgraded replacement model of the ground breaking XL1 camera. It is still the only prosumer camcorder to offer an interchangeable lens system.

The Canon XM2 is a European PAL camera so if you're in the U.S. this is going to cause issues for you. The XL2 would be my choice based on previous experience, though.
If you can't find the manual on Canon's website it's probably not a good idea to go elsewhere. Your best bet is to send it in to Canon and have their techs repair it.
Well, I hate that when it happens so we changed test-bed computer to Mac. The software runs as soon as two hardware, pc and XL2 is connected physically. I do not have knowledge on prem pro 1.5. but from technician's point of view, if both machines I/O hardwares are ok rest of the reponsibility depending on the program. This is how I would do it. 1. Restart the computer 2. open only the related program and have it ready for connect. 3. turn on XL2 on VCR mode, test make sure it plays few second. 4. connect the firewire. Hope this works otherwise, I will re-install the program and try. Beyond that point, it's good to consult with a local technician for diagnostic of your XL2 first. -James
Plug it into Audio 1 ports, switch to audio, not mic on the physical camera, then check that you have selected stereo 12 bit, 1,2 from the record audio menu.
Also note you have to push the button next to the audio meter to monitor different sources.
Take the camera to a reputable camera shop, there is honestly no way to do this at home, if you touch the video heads by accident, or accidently move something, it could spell big trouble. Also I to have an XL2, and canon might be willing to fix this for free from what I understand about their customer care plan (Best Regards)
