Question about Microwave Ovens
My Sharp Insight Pro KB6024MS microwave drawer suddenly stopped working today. The drawer opens and closes, the light goes on, and the beepers, time, etc. all work - it does everything but microwave. I used it in the a.m. and it worked fine, but when I went to use it at lunch time...no microwave.
It was installed new in Feb 2008, so it is only two years old.
Any help would be appreciated.
The drawer often stops working when it is abruptly stopped while
opening and forced closed or vice-versa. To fix, simply do the
1) Push the draw all the way closed
2) Push the "Setup" button repeatedly until the "Open/Close ...?" appears.
3) Hold the Start Button until the time reappears in the display.
4) Repeat steps 2 & 3 three more times
5) Unplug the Microwave for 30 minutes.
The drawer is now reset. The drawer will now open electronically (automatically) either by pushing the open button on the panel or by pulling the drawer handle slightly.

In all likelihood the mangnetron has failed, or perhaps even the Power Supply. or a fault that is shutting the system down for safety reasons You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man.
Ensure you get a firm "Quote" before proceeding, and remember these days the cost of repair can equal or exceed the price of a new one.

Tips for a great answer:
Unplug your microwave and turn it around and remove the screws holding cover on and then remove the cover. Be very careful about touching electrical connections because there can still be some live current stored in the capacitor. Look for where the power cord goes into the back of the unit and follow the black wire from the cord to where it ends. It should stop an either a circuit board or a fuse holder. Make sure that you replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse as what you take out. You will find the amp rating stamped on one of the silver collars on each end of the fuse. Good luck!
