So what is the problem? Are your signal lights working?
The "click sound" that could be heard in grandpa's old car came from the bi-metal flasher "can" that was used to turn the indicator lamps on and off. The Chevrolet brand vehicle built in 2009 and named "Equinox" did not use the old-school "can" to control the turn signals. It uses one of those new-fangled things called a computer, which uses solid-state drivers to operate the turn signal bulbs. Therefore the "clicking" that was produced by the bi-metal element inside the can is no longer heard.
However, for those that forget and leave their turn signals on (because they no longer have the "click" to make them pay attention to the turn signal indicators screaming at them from the instument cluster area), there is a message that displays on the Driver's Information Center (another one of them new-fangled computer thingys) that tells the driver that the turn signal has been left on. If the driver is still not paying attention (you know, busy texting, or what-not..), Then the chime module will start sounding off with a "dinging" sound.
For drivers that really get into their phone conversations, texting, music turned up to 10,000 decibles, or simply just gawking at all the ugly cars that they are flying past at mach speed, the vehicle manufacturer has made the volume level of the dingy thing configureable so it can scream at the driver a little louder.
This subject is covered in the
2009 Chevrolet Equinox Owners Manual.
If yours is like the ones most people have, The cobwebs come off pretty easilly with just a dry towel. Look under "turn signals" as well as "Driver's Information Center".
OR...If you want to get
completly away from grandpa's old beater, you can go ahead and allow the turnips to grow from the cover of that old-fashioned book thing that is occupying space in your glove box and use your fancy computer thing-a-ma-jig to download a PDF version by using that mousey....whatchamacallit, to click the link below....or the one above! Wow! now THAT is rad!
