The chair will not charge.
You could have one or more of the following problems.
The batteries could be bad or too old to take a charge. The U-1 batteries for this chair can last between 1 and 2 years at most.
You have a bad charger cord which is making bad contact or is disconnected at the chair or the wall outlet. You can swap out this AC cord with a known good one.
The fuse at the charger is blown. The fuse is either at the back electronics console or in-line in a black boot fuse holder under the rear cover at the DC output of the charger harness. Check this fuse by holding it up to a light and checking to see if the filament is burned open. The fuse is a 7.5 amp ATO fuse usually.
The on-board charger is burnt out. This is harder to check since it is in the bottom of the electronics compartment for on-board chargers. Essentially, if the AC cord, fuse, and meter are good you should get up to 28 volts output at the batteries when they are connected to the charger output. You can pull the battery tray out or remove the base cover depending on model and put a digital voltmeter at the battery connector to test. Check the battery connections and plugs to make sure they are tight and connected.
If you have an off-board charger you can test the output and function of this charger the same way. With the off-board charger make sure it is plugged in and the switch is on before you make a voltage check at the battery connector (with the batteries plugged in).
Your most likely problem is the batteries. If the voltage is below around 18 volts, the on-board or off-board chargers will not turn on. If you can bring the voltage of the batteries up with a short term deep cycle charger clamped on the terminals you may be able to test the charger. You also need to have someone load test the batteries. If they are not holding a charge or load test weak or more than 2 years old replace them with new ones. A good technician can make all these checks in under 1 hour. The labor to replace any of these parts is also less than 1 hour. Hope this helps.
