SOURCE: kenmore upright older freezer coils frost up

the tech was telling you to put it in defrost and if ater the time you didn't hear the click the defrost timer is defective but like you are describing the defrost thermostat (bimetal) could be bad. here's a simple test (if your handy with a screwdriver) just dissasemble the panel and you will see the coil and defrost heater. if your handy with a voltmeter (please disconnect power first!) locate the two wires to the defrost element put the meter in "audible" mode and check for continuity on the defrost heater if you hear a beep it's good if it dosen't beep it's bad just replace heater w/ bimetal and your ready 2 go! email me @ hvac.tech7872pr@gmail if you have any questions

SOURCE: Kenmore freezer

if the gasket isn't torn and the gap isn't caused by a door hinge problem you might try putting some vaseline on the door seal. If that doesn't help you may have to replace the seal.

SOURCE: won't freeze

Is the compressor running the whole time? If so may have a problem with a refridgerant leak....check the compressor in the rear of unit, feel if its hot....may be as simple as a relay.

Kenmore Frost Free Comm. Model #253-23425100 - will not stay cold

Two things:

Either the thermostat has inadvertently been turned up, (too warm) or the gas in the compressor tank is low. If it isn't #1, call a repair tech to replentish the has in your compressor. If that isn't it he will tell you what he thinks it is. Good luck!

Problem with upright freezer not freezing

It sounds like the unit is low on freon or the compressor is going bad. You have several other components that could be affecting this as well. Make sure the coils are free from dust and clean underneath. This is a bit premature for you to have problems now, especially since it is a Sears product.
