I have a Maytag Model # MSB2354GR that is not cooling. There is a humming sound every few minutes followed by a click and then the humming stops. Any idea what the problem could be?

Sounds like a simple solution in most cases. The compressor needs a little kick to get it started. That kick come from part=> number 12002783 or here=> Sea Breeze Tip's
Here is a Large view=> MSB2354GR Compressor section and on photo number 6 is the=> 12002783 Run Capacitor

My Maytag MFD2560HES bottom fridge is making a loud humming noise.

Any time there is the sound of humming it is important to locate where the noise is coming from. Sometimes fans wear to a point that at one speed the sound as if humming. Sometimes compressors hum with more catastrophic results. Because your model is a bottom freezer it would be a good idea to open drawer to freezer and see if the sound is from fan in freezer or if pulled away from wall is the sound the fan or compressor area? I believe I will be able to locate a service manual but I will need you to help me pinpoint the location of the loud sound so we can get the sounds back to normal. Let me know if you are able to try that and what you find, Sea Breeze

The overload/relay , which is pluged onto the side of the compressor , is bad . The manufacturer part number is 12002794 . It is easily replaceable , with only 3 wires attached to it .

I have a 10 yr old Maytag side-by-side. Came home the other night and the Freezer was at 40F. What is the most likely problem

to start: make sure refrig is turned on and running.
1.do you hear the fan blowing inside the frzr compartment?
2.pull refrig out and listen for compressor running. is compressor running/humming away or are you hearing a humming sound followed by a clicking sound?if you hearing a clicking sound than mostly
is your relay on the compressor that went out. look for a smal device on the side of compressor w/two or three wires. part# 12002794 $32.00

also make sure there's no frost build on frzr rear wall.that's another problem

Maytag MFD2561HES Reefer not cooling

hello frooska,

kindly look at the back panel of the freezer section. if you can hear the humming sound, find out where it is coming from. if the sound is coming from the compressor, that means the evaporator fan is not running.

but, take note that u need to press the door switch of the freezer in order to check the fan. the fan stops every time the door is open. if the fan is not running, you have to remove the middle panel, above the evaporator, the fan would be there. ( in the freezer section)

but if the fan is running and the back panel of the freezer is full of frost, then that would be a defrost issue.

defrost heater, bi-metal or defrost controller.

Tnx 4 uisng Fixya,

Freezer not freezing on m,aytag mfd2560hes

hi andy, based on your story, i think the humming sound is coming from the compressor trying to start and the clicking sound is when the overload trips and make that clicking sound to turn off the compressor but it does resets itself so it would humm again after a few minutes and tripps off again..try to unplug the unit for a day to cool off the compressr and then plug it back. if it will happen again, you need to replace the compressor. i hope i was able to help..
