honestly, before you download any updates, i would try a complete uninstall/reinstall of the the printer and all it's drivers. windows vista is pretty retarded when it comes to installing programs/software/hardware and likes to "forget" the correct way of operating, which means that you find yourself having to reinstall things a second time.
Your machine is compatible with Windows Vista. Uninstall whatever drivers you currently have installed, then download and install the drivers from this link. Be sure and also install the MP Navigator (listed under Software), which provides the scanner interface program.
You can try and download the 32 bit driver for XP and install it using compatibility mode. But there are a lot of cannon printers/scanners that don't work with Vista, and most of these even need some finessing to work in Windows 7.
Me too, copy and works fine. When the printer starts up I can see that the scanner moves, the green light is there - all i can see is that maybe it is vista or that i didn't run the set up cd completely. But I put the instillation CD in again and went to http://www.canon.com.au/vista/ and downloaded their driver - now it works fine
If they don't have one, try using the compatibility wizard.
Download the latest driver available from the canon web site
To open the program compatibility wizard
1. click the Start button
2. click Control Panel
3. click Programs
4. click Use an older program with this version of Windows
5. browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The wizard is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.
First download and install the latest drivers for Windows Vista. Then try connecting the printer.
