Fred if you get sound to your headset from the same port you get no sound for your speakers, it is the speakers and not your headset. Are there any speaker lights on at all? If not maybe your power supply for the speakers is bad.Try a different set of speakers in the same computer and see what happens. If they work, the speakers are bad. Otherwise you have some strange connection problem.

Sorry, I missed your response: Here is a link to dell for a full list of possible causes of speaker not working:

The first one on the list might be your solution.
Here is a link to a specific problem with Dell 700m speakers. The speaker cables get cut in a hinge, you can check this as the possible issue.
Here is the link to the article. It may solve the problem:

Usually answered in minutes!
It's a laptop, I am talking about internal speakers not external ones.
it started with no more sound, period, about 3 weeks ago.
I pluged my headsets to see if I could get any sound and luckily I can at least hear the sound thru them.
I downloaded a new driver from dell and still no sound. What does it mean?
Thanks.
hi, how did the problem first start? has it been like it for a while ? or did you just remove headphones and the sound was gone ?
it's not a driver.. thought so myself.... I noticed a break in the speaker wires when I removed the panel above the keyboard. The 4 little white and black wires snapped! dell had a small design flaw on thier end! just remove your keyboard, unplug the wires, and splice and soldier them back together... it can be a easy to mederate fix, about 10-15 minutes, but it will resolve your no sound issue!
