Replacing the print heads fixes any poor print quality you are experiencing. Typically people replace print heads when a certain color (most likely black) is printing very faint or streaky. Over time the nozzles in the print head can get clogged with dried up ink. Enough clogged nozzles will inhibit ink from being deposited on the page in certain areas.

But replacing the print heads DOESN'T resolve this problem with this printer. I've just done so on my own HP L7580 after following all the preliminary steps HP recommends. I finally replaced both printheads - to no avail: the same white streaks on everything and a big expense for nothing.

My HP officejet pro L7580 has stopped printing black. The cartridge has been replaced ( HP original) . Other colours are fine. Printheads are fine. Error message on display: Alignment failed - Refer to...

On this HP the print head is not part of the cartridge. How do you know the print head is fine? Did you just try to do a test page without an alignment?
I know that HP (they suck) will not help you because you are past warranty - Google your question since I am sure that you are not the only person to have experienced this issue.
I think you have a bad print head.

Black ink not coming through

I had the same problem. Ended up replacing the black/yellow "printhead" and that corrected the problem.

My HP officejet Pro L7580 says the printhead has a problem

Re-insert the print cartridges. It is also possible that the heads are burnt. Get a new set of print heads (black/yellow) and install to the printer. If problem persists, clean the contacts on the printers. Use acetone + cotton swabs.

Hi,

Change the paper type and paper size and that should resolve the issue.

HP Officejet pro L7580 printhead error

This is an old thread - but I encountered the same problem with my 7580 today - and found this thread. I had replaced an empty black ink cartridge with a new XL black one. I made a about 4 or 5 mostly black and white prints and just like that it told me both printheads had a problem. Took them out and cleaned each ink head with toilet paper and replaced them a couple of times. Then it said that only the M/C head was bad. I tried to do various diagnostics and print head cleaning from the Solution Center with nothing happening. I took out the M/C head and shook it a few times and wiped the head with a napkin. Then I took some methylated spirit and wiped the head again. Inserted, closed the cover and pressed ok for a couple of seconds. It then proceeded to do all that I tried to do from my PC - print test page, print diagnostics page, and align the heads. It went through all and printed fine. This saved my about at least US$80 for one printhead! I hope this helps others. This was posted on 10Jan2011 and applies to HP 88 printheads.
