My IBM thinkpad a31 has problems booting up. When I turn on the computer, sometimes it shows the microsoft xp loading page; and other times when turning it on it shows a black screen. I have previously had the problem where a blue screen comes up mentioning a drive error. Now I am just getting a black screen. Any ideas? I did use the computer for hours while at work. Could this have attributed to the problem?

well check the bios... can u see the hdd listed in if yes then the hdd is ok , if no the its gone ,, still not able to boot it reset the bios and reload the os ur done
No, this is a known error within Windows. Read more information on it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302
But, if you are like me and don't like to read, just put your windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM, boot up from the CD-ROM, DO NOT reinstall the operating system...just repair the installation and run "chkdsk /r".
Once that is done, restart the machine and it should boot up fine.
Start by upgrading the bios for the motherboard. You can find the download at IBM's support site. Make sure to create at bootable disc with another machine, since your machine isn't functioning properly. This should fix the chipset issue and recognize the processor properly. Then reinstall XP and download any drivers, ie... sound, video, etc.., from IBM's site. This should get the machine working properly. If problems persist after you do this let me know and we'll go from there. Also, don't install service pack three, it's been known to create issues, only install service pack two.
if your OS is Win XP then UR MBR has gone currupt . You will have to reload the windows or at least repair it.
1. in repair you wont lose the data but in fresh loading of OS in C drive will delete your data in My documents and at desk top.
2. if there is some important data there then first retrive it by making ur drive as slave in other PC and then do the format.
Well yes BUT if it is a problem with the LCD then you would need to replace try plugging an external monitor to see if the sizes are normal if they arent then it is definately a problem with the screen resolutions.??
