Printer problem I managed to reset my printer so that it won't print with-out the original cartridges (which I no longer have) that came with the printer . How can I get it to recognize new cartridges?

  • Anonymous Feb 03, 2010

These are HP product cartridges, not refillables. I've replaced cartridges before with no problems whatsoever so I'm not sure why I'm having problems now.

These are HP product cartridges, not refillables. I previously replaced a "cyan" cartridge but kept getting a message to replace it. While trying to get the printer to recognize it I got into the "ink initialization" feature and that's where I think I screwed up. Now I just get a "wrong cartridges" note on the display and can't do anything printwise.

Quality refilled HP 02 cartridges should function in the same way that the originals did. If they are not, you've been had. These cartridges have kill chips on them that need replacing. Many "discount" refillers will sell you a cartridge with either the original spent chip or a very low quality replica. A reputable refiller doesn't make any money on the 02s but will offer them for convenience anyway.

I have a PIXMA iP4300 and just want to use it for black and white document printing. My 'M' and 'C' color cartridges ran out a while ago and I disposed of them but didn't replace them...

Hello,
Most of the Canon printers form the PIXMA iP series block printing when one of the cartridges is empty. You have some options: 1) change the cartridges (with original or compatible) 2) buy a chip resetter and reset the empty cartridges chip so they can cheat the printer that they are full. This way you will clog the nozzles of your print head and the printer will become useless and won't print.
That's why I suggest you to but even cheap compatible cartridges and replace them.
Hope this helps. Alex

Hi! I has refill my ink cartridges for canon mp490 printerbut I don't know how to reset it to make it print.i know you may have more idea then me.thanks for your help.thanks

Welcome to the world of Canon. Simply put, the PG-210 CL-211 cartridges have what I like to call "digital fuses" built in. One fuse for "new" and one for "empty". When you install a new Canon cartridge both "digital fuses" are intact. The "new" fuse tells the printer that it is a new genuine Canon cartridge and resets the page counter internal to the printer. With the page counter reset, the printer "blows" the "digital fuse" and that cartridge enters the used state. When the page counter on the printer believes the cartridge to be completely empty it will "blow" the second "digital fuse" and the printer will from then on refuse to recognize it as a valid cartridge. Some claim to have ways around this, but Canon really has won this battle. My Cartridge World store does not refill these cartridges and does not recommend refilling them. Buying original Canon cartridges is what we recommend.

Hp PhotoSmart C4480 printer all of a sudden displays msg. ''incompatible print cartridge'' Haven't changed cartridges recently. Removed cartridges, put them back in, shut down computer, restarted and get...

You will need to contact HP and request a "regionalization reset". To perform the reset you will need access to your computer and printer as well as a set of cartrdiges for your new region while on the phone with HP. Once the region has been reset the original (US region) cartridges will no longer work in your printer.

Refilled Cartridges

I've refilled cartridges twice so far. The first time, the black was completely empty and the color was nearly empty. The printer accepted the color refill and not the black. The second time, I refilled both cartridges before they completely ran dry and both were accepted by the printer. The gauges don't register the ink, but it prints just fine. I just monitor the levels through the print quality. A friend with the same printer has told me that she only get 2 - 3 refills before the cartridge has to be reset, and that is a tricky process, but can be done.

No colour printing

The problem with Canon printers sometimes is that, if you do not use original cartridges and put compatible ones, the printer will not recognise them. Even if you refill the originl ones the printer will still think that they are empty due to the microchip that every cartridge has. Try using original inks. If you already used original inks, then another reason might that the ink tubes have benn blocked because of dried ink if you haven't used your printer for a long time. Try performing a deep clean through the printer application.
Hope that helps
