Philips 60PP9202 60 in. Rear Projection - Convergence Issue; Hourglass Picture

I have a 60PP9202 that initially had a green convergence problem. Thanks to all the great information I was able to replace the two IC's myself. I also replace two open 1W 6.8 ohm resisters. However, when I turned the TV on, the green convergence problem was fixed, but the entire picture is distorted like an hourglass on its side.

Are my IC's bad & not functioning?

Is there a fuse that may be blown that powers the IC's? If so, where would it be located and what does it look like?

  • FastHound Feb 20, 2008

I will certainly check my solder joints.

Does anyone have any idea on the location of the Pico fuse that powers the IC's?

ctf1800 - To ensure that they are not bad, is this a simple continuity test?

Check your soldering and make sure all pins are soldered.

they are typically around the high voltage transformer, they look like resisters but no color codes.

My 52in hd tv wont show a picture and when you cut it on it just light up red but no picture and i cant get to adjust the convergence on the menu.

If the screen is a bright red its indicating an issue with the CRTs could be the red has shorted or the coolant in the blue and green is needing replacement which makes the red Dominate. Looking into the blue and green lenses will verify if its a coolant isssue or not. The convergence issue is most likley failed convergence ICs and the associated 6.8 ohm resistors need replacment.

Sony 53 inch projection screen with hourglass picture

If you are familiar with TV repair, have electronics basic knowledge, good soldering skills and tools then check dry (cold) soldering joints at D board of this TV. Resold all lose connections there and check picture.
Still no joy then you need to replace D board.

Magnavox 51mp392h

replace the convergence ICs STK392-120 you will need both of them also check the 6.8 ohm resistors right next to the ICs as often 1 or 2 of them burn open. You should be able to notice the discoloration in the center of the resistors.

Bowing picture

may have blown your convergence, does it look like all 3 colors are hourglass or is it just one. If all 3 are bad and it is on the sides it may be a pincushon problem, I dont think you have an adjustment problem I think you have a part failure. If this set is older than about 5 years old it may be starting to have issues with the CRT coolant and the blue may be getting blury, the blue and green will need to be changed also. I would definitly call someone on this to make sure that you get all your bases covered as Fluid is conductive and can cause all kinds of issues up to fire hazzard. (of course that is if it is leaking, and that could be what caused your hourglass issue.)

Warped Picture, Separated colors

Each color (red, green & blue) has an amplifier IC (STK-).
When there is a convergence issue, the first step is change both
IC's for reliability. Then check for open fuses devices, usually
pico fuses.Then re-check convergence alignment.......T.
