On your remote, look for the INPUT button.
Push it slowly once at a time. It will change the input your TV is looking for and the cable TV will come up.

Why won't my TV accept the Av signal from my VCR?

A couple of possibilities. First a faulty cable or socket on either the TV or VCR. Next the VCR is plugged into the wrong AV connection.

Tv or cable remote don't work on tv

Have the remote or remotes tested to be sure they are ok---failing that every set has a remote receiver inside that receives the infrared signal the remote sent---suspect number one is the remote receiver in your set.

I have just been given an old sony 5.1ch class t amplifier surround system will it only work when i play a dvd or will it work when watching normal tv, as i don`t have a manual

Will work with normal TV as long as your tv signal is broadcast in surround, such as thru a cable or satellite provider. Otherwise it will default to standard stereo.

My tv does not respond to the remote and has to be turned off and on manually first , when it eventually comes on it is on channel that is not supported by our digital signal. I have tried to skip the...

If this set is still under warranty return it for repair/replace.
Do you have the correct remote for this tv ?
If it is correct you can do a quick check to see if it is putting out a signal. Turn on a digital camera and point the remote at the lens. Press the power button and others on the remote and watch for a flash on the camera lcd screen.
Check that the input signal cable on the back is on the correct socket. Disconnect the unused input cables.
Go into the menu and set the input signal source to match the connection on the back.
Scan in the stations.
(There may be signal interference causing the problem)
Are the channels found within reception range?

I have a new element hdtv and a magnavox dvd/vcr. i can't seem to hook the two together. please help

Greetings, Simple hookup would be connecting analog output from DVD/VCR player to your TV. To do this, use the Audio-Video cable which has 3 terminals at both the ends and each terminal has RED,YELLOW and WHITE pin. Your DVD/VCR player would have analog output socket where you would connect one end of these 3 pins, make sure yellow would go in "VIDEO Out, WHITE would go in "LEFT Audio Out" and RED would go in "RIGHT Audio Out", you can easily identify them cause these sockes would also have the colors on them. Now connect other end of the cables to TV, this would be input to your tv. On the back left hand side of the TV, you would see 3 sockes with YELOW, WHITE and RED colors. These are located between "Coaxial" and "S Video" labels. Connect yellow pin to yellow socket which is "Video In", connect RED pin to RED socket and White to white. Switch on the TV, play any dvd on your player. On your TV remote, press INPUT button which is located on the right hand side top corner on remote, press it and if you get the dvd player video and audio, you should repeat the button press to see the video, this button selectes one by one signals given to TV, so your dvd player input might be on the 2nd,3rd or 4th press, so go through till you get the video signals. Hope this helps !!! --Sandy.

Trying to set-up dvd

If non HD, just link a scart cable from rear of TV to rear of DVD, if HD use a HDMI cable , there will be a number next to the socket on the TV that you plug the cable in, select that number using the remote and away you go. (If dvd recorder, av 2 usualy sends a signal to the DVR for recording)
Could tell you more precise if you posted the make & model of units.
