When opening iTunes I receive this warning ''The registry setting used by iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.'' Since then the CD drive does not recognise music CD and video CD. It can however read programs on CD as well as all DVDs. I have done the iTunes reinstallation, restored my computer to an earlier time and even gone through system recovery. I went on line for solution and was told to go to the registry and delete upper and lower filters. I did it but the problems persist but the problem is not solved. I remember this started around a period that I installed Nero and Ashampoo softwares. I therefore uninstalled them but still no solution.

Hi gokay45,
I suggest you take a look at this knowledge base article to completely uninstall all of iTunes and Quicktime, and then install a fresh copy.
It seems that some users installing iTunes 8 on Windows systems are encountering an error message:
“ERROR: The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing
and burning cds and dvds are missing… Please re-install iTunes”
iTunes uses GEAR software drivers for importing and burning CD’s &
DVD’s. Re-installing (or installing the latest GEAR drivers seems to
fix this problem. No reboot required for this install.
You can get the current GEAR drivers here: http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm
If this does not fix your problem download a fresh installer for iTunes here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Uninstall iTunes, reboot, & then do a fresh install of iTunes.
This fix is from: http://getsatisfaction.com/apple/topics/registry_settings_missing

Good
news!!!!I have had the same problem as you and have been dealing with
it the last 2 days-uninstalling itunes, quicktime and then reinstalling
and installing gearproduct download??Anyway to make a long story SHORT:
1. Do a search for a file -GEARAspiWDM.inf in C drive
2. Right click and install
3. Reboot the computer
4. itunes should be working without the error-I hope, it worked for me!!!!!!
good luck, K
you already have other cd / dvd burner software on pc / laptop...use it...(can i suggest a better software than itunes for burning..unless you have this already..nero, ashampoo and / or burn4free cd / dvd)...nero has much more to place on the menu of dvd...cd (u can get creative)....this way your new version of itunes will just keep your ipod up to date (no more regs problems)
