my tv will no turn on i have a philips model number 64p8342

  • Anonymous Feb 20, 2009

I have the same model #. It started last summer when the tv would not turn off. It had to actually unplug the tv to get it to turn off. It would start back up just fine and then it would do it again. The last time it it would not turn on at all, with the remote or by pushing the on off switch on the tv. I called a service tech and they came out and told me the tv was junk and to buy a new one, charged me $120 and left. a few months later I still had this huge tv in my living room wondering what to do with it and decided I would just try to plug it back in and turn it on. It worked! Like nothing was ever wrong with it. Last week it would not turn off again so I unplugged it and now it will not turn on again. I wonder if it is something in the switch or something. I love the tv but not the current issues. Don't know what can be done to fix it..any answers?

How to determine why my LED TV backlights aren't working

Do you have the panel out? You said all the backlights work, were you able to see them all light with your tester? If so I'd lean towards main board issues. On most larger Funai brand sets one shorted lamp will shut down the inverter from over current.

My television does not start up

Hi.

If there is no power at all, no led on, and no sign of life whatsoever, that means that the problem is either the power cord, or the internal power supply board.

In that case test the TV using a different power outlet (eventually use an extension). If the power cord is fused, like in UK for example, then check and replace the fuse in the power cord.

If instead the TV stays in stand-by, with the LED light on, but does not respond to remote, or to the buttons on the chassis, then the TV is in protect (safe) mode because an internal fault had been detected.

In that case the TV is probably faulty.
Follow the troubleshooting on this article: Why my TV does not start up and remains in...

If that does not work, contact the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual to get the TV repaired by a licensed technician.

Regards.

Our LG TV will not power on. No light, no sound, nothing. How can we check the fuse on the power supply? Or could it be the power cord?

Hi Dfhamilton,
Damages due to lightening surge can go to any extent in a tv set. If you can, please open the back cover and check the fuse. Replace with the same rating one if you find it blown. Switch on the set. If it works, enjoy watching. If it blows again, please consult some TV tech.
Good Luck.

Hello.
If you have multimeter available you can actually check if voltage present at the end of your power cord first.
If it's OK than you have to remove back cover from your TV and locate power supply board. It's very easy - it should be next to the power cord receptacle. First look for capacitors that have bulged tops instead of flat ones. If you locate any - replace them and check if it's going to take care of problem.
Right next to receptacle connection is fuse located and you have to check if it's open. Replace it if needed. If new fuse got blown right away - you have short in power supply board. If fuse is OK - connect power cord and using multimeter try to figure out if 5V is supplied from Power supply board to the main board (the one that have all inputs attached to it). If 5V is present but power LED in front of the TV is still dead - you could have problem with main board.
Best regards.
Russ.

The TV will not turn in (by remote or from the tv)

Is the standby LED light off ? Do you hear clicking sounds when you press the power button on the TV ?
If not it's probably the power supply board. Look at the fuses(s) on the power supply board. If the fuses are good you may have to replace the board if bad.
