When i plug my harddrive into my computer, nothing on my computer works and the harddrive light flashes blue and red.

i just had this issue. I took a small phillips screw driver out and removed the seagate hard drive from its enclosure. I brought the hard drive to a microcenter to verify if the hard was dead or something in the case. The hard drive was fine. I purchased a $15.00 inland 2.o to IDE/ SATA adapter from microcenter. This let me use my drive as I did before. All of my data that was on the drive is still there.

I just had this problem with both my external drives (I was using the same power cable and just alternating between them). I went and got drive B's power cable and they work fine now. Try replacing the power cable

Sounds like your hard drive took a really bad bump. Do you know if any mishandling occur during or before install? Most times you must replace the drive with a new one. The sound you hear is the read arms trying to read the disks.

SOURCE: not recognizing external harddrive in
Hello,
There are a few possibilities, the fact the light is blinking generally means the power adapter is fine.
The options left are a faulty driver in your PC, a failed circuit board in the enclosure or a failed circuit in the drive itself.
First try the drive on a different PC and see if it works. If it does reply back and we can look into the failed driver. If it doesn't then take it to your local PC shop and have the technicians move the hard drive into a new enclosure.
If it works in the new enclosure buy the enclosure and your on the way. If it doesn't, then the hard drive itself is the problem. If that is the case you will need the help of a data recovery pro to retrieve your data. If this is the case reply with your location(Country, State and City) and I will assist you in finding a reputable pro to assist you.
Hope this helps FixYa,
Chris
