SOURCE: Red and Blue flashing light

i just had this issue. I took a small phillips screw driver out and removed the seagate hard drive from its enclosure. I brought the hard drive to a microcenter to verify if the hard was dead or something in the case. The hard drive was fine. I purchased a $15.00 inland 2.o to IDE/ SATA adapter from microcenter. This let me use my drive as I did before. All of my data that was on the drive is still there.

Sounds like your hard drive took a really bad bump. Do you know if any mishandling occur during or before install? Most times you must replace the drive with a new one. The sound you hear is the read arms trying to read the disks.

SOURCE: not recognizing external harddrive in

Hello,

There are a few possibilities, the fact the light is blinking generally means the power adapter is fine.
The options left are a faulty driver in your PC, a failed circuit board in the enclosure or a failed circuit in the drive itself.

First try the drive on a different PC and see if it works. If it does reply back and we can look into the failed driver. If it doesn't then take it to your local PC shop and have the technicians move the hard drive into a new enclosure.

If it works in the new enclosure buy the enclosure and your on the way. If it doesn't, then the hard drive itself is the problem. If that is the case you will need the help of a data recovery pro to retrieve your data. If this is the case reply with your location(Country, State and City) and I will assist you in finding a reputable pro to assist you.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

My external Harddrive just up and stopped showing up on the computer. I mean the lights (red and blue) are on, it just doesnt show up. i even plugged both cables into my comp, and still nothing. I noticed...

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer too then power adapter of harddisk or your harddrive has internal issue.

The blue light does not come on the red power light flashes and the red power light flashes i see nothing on the lap top

it might have been dropped, if so it could have bent the little read pin inside causing it to not be able to function correctly, those little harddrives cant take a very big hit

Fantom titanium external light turns red on connecting

Hi,

Red is a failure warning but if it only hasppens with the usb plugged in it's mostly likey a failure in the IDE/SATA to USB conversion board.

Take the drive to your local PC shop, ask the techs there to pull the hard drive out of your phantom and test it in a new enclosure. If it works there, buy the enclosure, if it doesn't reply back and let me kow your Country, State and City and I can recommend a pro to look at the actual harddrive if you need files recovered from it.

Light doesn't turn blue at all

Plug it into another computer if possible, clear ALL files on it.
You must of been sending something to it when you flicked the switch, they would normally go off straight away.

(Backup on the other computer first)

If this does not work then you may want to see if you can see a usb stick in your USB ports. If you can it's a fault with the harddrive, nothing else you can do.

Harddrive issues.

I would suggest 2 things.
Open the PC up and reseat the RAM stick/s.
Also reseat the graphics card if applicable.
If the monitor still doesnt get sync take out the pci cards and see if it will POST.
If so plug your PCI cards back in one at a time to diagnose which is the faulty one.
Also it could be your graphics card, take it out and use the O/B graphics see if the monitor will get sync off the O/B.
If this doesnt help please supply more information.
