You can transfer the songs from the old iPod to the new iPod using the iTunes Software installed in the Computer. It is required to connect the old iPod to the Computer and sync the songs to the iTunes Software. Select the Sync iPod option from the File Menu. Once you sync the songs from the old iPod you can connect the new iPod and Sync again to transfer the songs from the iTunes.

Hi, message saying "can not sync" means that the connection from the ipod to the computer was not successful..
If you sync your iPod with a different/empty library iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from the iPod to the computer and everything else on it will be erased.
