You should format the memory card, while in the camera. Find the built in utility. If the format fails (try a couple times first) then get a new memory card. Possibly this will help the conectivity issue too, if not try looking in the Disk Management section (Right click My Computer, Choose Manage) See if the camera, connected to pc, is showing there without a drive letter. Right click on it and assignn it a drive letter. Hope this helps.

I got a new computer and would like to be able to upload my Canon PowerShot SD 1300IS pictures to the new computer. I cannot find the installation disk for the camera. Is it possible to download the...

Consider NOT installing the camera.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

I mailed my sister a Vivitar 7022 and she cannot open the manual files from the included disk. Also, when she unpackaged the camera it had a cracked screen. How can she obtain the manual, and is the camera...

The manual can be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site at
http://www.vivitar.com/files_products/400/ViviCam_7022_Camera_Manual.pdf

If the crack is only on the glass then the camera and the screen will work, albeit the crack may hinder viewing. If the crack involves the electronics as well then part or all of the screen will be inoperative, making it difficult or impossible to use the menus, compose new pictures, and review old pictures, however the camera will still record images to the memory card for subsequent transfer to a computer. If the crack is symptomatic of deeper internal damage then the camera may not work.
