Problem: After opening the dvd drawer ,loading a dvd in it and closing it
the drawer does not stay closed; it comes back out.
Even after several tries it still doesn't close. What's the problem?
My DVD recorder HDD/DVD 160gb RH277H door (or tray or whatever it is called) won't stay closed. After switching the LG on the door keeps opening, I close it and it re-opens again and again and so on. Don't know what to do as the answer is not on the troubleshooting manual. My DVD recorder HDD/DVD 160gb RH277H door (or tray or whatever it is called) won't stay closed. Same problem here... the LG DVD/VCR combo drive was new one year ago and it's already on the blink. The drawer keeps popping out and won't read a disc. Not a great unit, and I would never recommend it to anyone! Argh!

You need to replace the dvd loader(the whole setup, the draw/tray,laser sled assy ,etc) statewide sell
parts for lg.unless you know an authorised lg repair agent.too bad you dont know me, lol.
(ps,its not in the manual, cuz there is nothing you can really do about it without serviceing the unit)

It sounds like you need a new load belt. Installing the belt is a complicated process, not impossible, but if you have not done it before it could be daunting.
If you want to try it you will need to remove the cover. Take out the screws on the rear and any located on the sides. Remove the cover. Now you need to disconnect any wires attached to the DVD. Mark them first for easy assembly. Remove the screws holding the unit to the base and any other mounting screws. Remove the DVD and take the screws out of the sides to remove the cover.
From here it will be something which you will have to determine as every unit is different. You will probably have to remove the load assembly. This is the tricky part. Reassembly will require making sure the timing is correct.
If this seems like more than you need to deal with you may want to buy a new unit as they are not that expensive today. Another solution would be to push the door shut manually until the belt finally gives out completely.

the open button could be shorted meaning the unit is constantly being told to open its tray i think its worth having looked at and i think your sons off the hook dvds are pritty hard for kids to muck up unlike the older vcr you would no belive the things kids would put in them best one i ever saw was a weat bix and a slice of toast.
Could be a timing issue with the tray mechanism - possible that somebody has given the tray "a shove" to make it close instead of using the open/close button and has put the timing out.or a worn tray loading belt
had the same problem the mechanism for the door opener is faulty.........waited for 2 months to be finally told by samsung part is no longer available......wonderful back up service isnt it. Luck have it I had an extended warranty and getting it replaced with a LG combo
try cleaning the player. with a dvd clean disk..for about $5.00 to $7.00.... and wipe down the player.
sometimes dust and trash gets in the way and will not close properly and you end up closing an closing until the trash get out of the way... cleaning it will help..
the inter relay swich on the door is molfushing,or the open and close butten is bad'', try closeing the door and at the same time that the door close's unplug the power and then plug it back in after a few seconds and see what happens it my stay closed and then you can play it,, and it my stop doing that ''if not you will have to take it in to a repare shop'''' my names is ''james ''' let me know if this works for you''' you can e-mail ' me back at '' [email protected] .
First, the two of you Don't have the same problem. Now then, the unit that won't play DVDs needs an alignment or replacement of the optical assembly. The VCR unit has a bind of some sort in the carriage load assembly...accordianman
