Question about Sony XS-L1035 Car Subwoofer

Hello. I have one (1) XS-L1035 being powered by a JBL gts 180X 2/1 channel amp. The sub works fine if i power two(2) subs thru 2 channels BUT if I try to bridge the power to one sub the amp cuts out. Is it because I am changing the ohms by bridging it? How can i bridge the power to this sub?

It sounds like the problem is with the amp. try using the other sub in bridged mode and see if it still turns it off. If it still turns off then its definitely the amp. In 2 channel mode you are using each channel at 4 ohms right? and in bridged mode to 1 speaker it should be throwing a ton of power on a 4 ohm load as well,it should work fine bro -its gotta be the amp

2 speakers and 1 powered sub
The red and black connectors are the right (red) and left channels for the speakers, so they should connect. However the sub needs a single RCA type phono socket, which should be marked "sub" etc. If it hasn't got one of them you will have problems connecting the powered sub.

Which amplifier is best suitable for me to use?
This really depends on the setup you intend to create in your vehicle.

The Amplifer (amp) needs to be matched to the speakers you intend to run.


As a rule of thumb, the power of the amp shouldn't exceed the max. power of the speaker (this may damage your speaker). Instead, the amp's RMS output power should be at 75-100% of the speaker's RATED (RMS) input power. NOTE: this must NOT be confused with max power.

Ideally, you want to run each speaker with its own amp channel.

A subwoofer will usually require a hi-power single channel amp, or a 2 channel amp, bridged into 1 (to increase power output required for the sub).

Here are some examples in simpler terms:

1 channel (hi power) amp can run a subwoofer.
2 channel amp can run 2 speakers, or 1 sub (bridged).
4 channel amp can run 4 speakers, or a combination of 2 spkrs + 1 sub (bridged), or perhaps 2 subs (bridged).

Page 8: The sub needs a subwoofer Line Level pre-out from an AV Receiver or multichannel processor. Though not elaborated on in the manual, the L and R Line Level RCA connections are probably for use if you lack a Sub Out feed. Running L and R from your receiver would allow the sub to derive a Sub Channel.

The rest of the speakers would connect to the AVR's speaker outputs.

Pasge 9: Alternate method if your eelctronics lacks a volume-controlled sub pre-out. This method routes only the front speaker level power to the sub so it can extract something resembling an LFE channel, then it routes speaker wire out to the front speakers, not as an audio power source but simply as a pathway.

You still need amplifier channels for all but the sub.

Selecting an amplifier!
Buy a quality 2 channel amp. About 600 rms and set one channel as your highs using your crossover and then the second channel on "low" position for your sub. wire directly in to your low's channel with your sub at 2 ohms and then wire your speakers to the other channel.

Busted Kicker Subs
hi not worth fixing as labor is to high.

look around on ebay make sure you replace them with a name brand some companies like JBL sell refurbished subs with full warranties for cheap.

Remember with subs you must have a crossover either electronic or just a component in the cabinet so that the speaker is only reproducing the correct frequencies.

Lastly 12" subs require a ton of clean power 200 watts per ch minimum..and if possible they should be either 1 channel amps or bridged to 1 channel meaning for a pair of 12's you would have 2 amps

Contrary to popular belief most subs are damaged because people overdrive their amps and that blows the voice coil

Hello polarisracin,

You need to bridge 2 of the amp channels to each 4 ohm sub to get the most power from the amp. Bridge channels 1/2 to one of the subs and channels 3/4 to the other one. But the amp is only rated for 75 watts RMS per channel and Pyle products are sometimes rated higher than their real capabilities. So, even bridged and with the rated output, you'll only be getting at most 150 watts from a pair of bridged channels. That's not much for a sub.

Bridging outputs on JBL BP300
Hello paulnkate,

The BP300.1 is a mono (1 channel) amp. You cannot bridge a mono amp. Bridging is a method of combining the outputs of 2 or more channels of a multichannel amp into a single mono load. On your amp you would connect a single sub to one of the +'s and one of the -'s (either one is OK, they are connected internally). The other pair of terminals is just for convenience, making it easier to connect, if you want to power 2 subs.

Subwoofer buldging out problem
When speakers are wired in the wrong way the will do the "pushing out" you're describing. Basically the polarities have been reversed and if kept like this over a period of time will blow the speaker. Best thing to do is to disconnect the power by the negative on the amp and take out the fuse from the power supply. Check the wires running from the amp to the subs, negative to negative and positive to positive. I know it sounds basic but many people do mix it up! I would also check to see what channels the subs have been wired into?

Best way is to have one sub from channel 1 and the other sub from channel 2 for example. Or if its a bridged 4 channel amp, have 1 sub running from channel 1&2, and the second sub running from channel 3&4 still making sure of the polarities. Again this all depending what kind of amp and sub you have.

For example;
A 4 channel (bridged) 1000W amp. 250W max per channel or 500W per 2 channels! So if you have 2 500W subs, by connecting one to a single channel will decrease subs ability due to the lack of power supplied. However by combining 2 channels you optimize the output!

Once you know all your wiring from your amp to subs are ok/good connections/good wires etc you shouldnt have to "wiggle the wires" to get it to work as this is just a bad connection. Also ensure that no 2 wires are touching. Make sure that the master volume on the amp is turned down. You dont need this to be on loud at all, in fact far from it or you'll risk damaging both the amp and subs!

Is amp big enough for speakers
Hello,

To run 2 subs, the amp would be a little small. The subs will run OK, they just won't be very loud.

It's usually better to compare and match up the RMS power rather than the peak power. The Sony XS-L10P5B sub has a peak power handling figure of 1200 watts, but the RMS is 300 watts. The Sony XM-ZZR3301 monoblock amp puts out 1100 watts peak, but only 330 watts RMS. They would work great together, 1 sub, 1 amp. But if you add another sub, each one would only be getting about 165 watts. They'd work OK, just not as loud as they could be.
