"Runaway Dishwasher" Brand new model#FDB520RHS2 Frigedaire was installed today. It was on normal wash and did 8 washes and rinses. It wouldn't switch to the heat cycle. I hit the cancel button after 2 and half hours of washing and rinsing. The water emptied. I then opened the door and let it air dry...I am upset that it did this crazy thing. Do I have a lemon? What would you suggest???

We had a problem with our dishwasher, it just went crazy one day and lights would light up but ours did not wash or anything...anyways upon further investigation found out by taking 6 large round head screws off,, the handle and outer cover came off, then there was a cover that was covering a circuit board and this was the brains of the washing machine, ordered the part from sears 160.00 and washer is all set. good luck. oh ya, upon further exam. when I took the board off could see discoloration on part of the circuit board. this means burned out resistor or fuse.
Similar Kenmore Dishwasher 665.18664000. Time saver and Quick rinse were the only programs that would run. I pressed "high temp scrub" then "air dry" then "high temp scrub" then "air dry" and the machine went into a diagnostic mode and counted down from 10 while running a series of tests. After about 10 minutes and various test cycles the machine reset and the "normal wash" light had come back on. If this doesn't work then you may have a problem with the controller which other threads have mentioned replacing yourself for about $120.
Open the door.
Within 3 seconds press the following sequence --Try pressing normal wash,
heated dry, normal wash, heated dry, normal wash, heated dry three times within
6 seconds and then press cancel to reset the dishwasher. If that doesn't help
then try pressing Saini
Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry or Saini Rinse, Air
Dry, Saini
Rinse, Air Dry, Saini
Rinse, Air Dry 3 times in 6 seconds and then the Cancel Button. Close the door
and press Cancel.
Blinking lights would stop and should be able to use your dishwasher normally.
If the light is still blinking try and reset the power to the dishwasher and
try again. If still the light is blinking then check for the connections on the
keypad, it may be due to moisture or shorted connections on keypad.
Hope this
helps... Please post back if you need more information.
This may sound strange but that is a normal cycle time for today's dishwashers. They use much less water and the water is 'recycled' within the filtration system in the pump.
By reusing and filtering this water they save on heating energy and water consumption. The motors are not as powerful so they use less power even when running longer. Many machines will alternate the wash between the upper and lower arms, this type uses much less water and energy but again the trade off is long cycle times.
If you were to select a heavy or pots and pan cycle with hi temperature wash and a sani rinse your times can be up to 4 hours in some machines today.
The reason behind these savings are mostly due to the energy standards that the appliance manufactures have to abide by today.
I know this may not have been what you wanted to hear but it is how they work today.
You said, You just installed the dishwasher and the only cycle it will go through
is the rinse cycle. When You turn the dial to any of the other cycles:pots&pans, normal, light wash and upper rack, the start button
as well as the heat dry button and the high temp button do not work.
only button that will light up when pressed is the delay button. How
can you fix this?
Is this your model FDB1050REC2This is a brand new model and you said you just installed it! If it is brand new! You do not have to fix it. You have a full years warranty, parts and labor!let them fix it no cost to you. The first thing they will do, . You can do your self!
Go to the breaker and turn it off for 5 minutes and then on again. This should reset the system and this usually is the end to most bad starts!
My Frigidaire front loader washer model LTF2140E doesnt want to drain the water when set to wash (heavy-normal-quick selectors). It washes put thats it. I have to switch the selector to drain/spin then rinse/spin cycle to finish the load. I checked the drain hose for any clogs....everything is clear. Any suggestions? Also,iIs their any reset buttons for this type of washer?
